I agree with a lot of what you are saying, except for Ellen. I think she is doing well in showing middle America that gays and lesbians are people just like them. There are a lot of venues where the glbt community can preach to the choir. Someone needs to seep into mainstream culture unnoticed and give the subliminal message that we are not all child molesters and freaks. I say that because when I was younger my mom always acted like every gay person I knew was out to rape me. And when Ellen first came out my mom always called her names when she came on the TV. Now, years later, my mom actually enjoys Ellen's show, knowing full well that she's a lesbian. Yes, the in-your-face protests let people know we're here, but once they see people just like them reflected in the media, then they'll start to accept us as people, and only then will they begin to accept our differences.
