Why does it take so fucking long to get the results?

I mean shit, even using computerized counting methods, it takes way longer than pretty much every other non third-world country.

In Canada and the UK, and most of Europe, whole still for the most part use pencil and paper, the election results, from the entire country, are 'finalized' within a couple of hours of the last polling station closing, yet here we are, a day after the elction and some states are still calculating who 'won'.
