Yesterday I saw the new documentary Grizzly Man in the theater. Apart from it being a great story from the always interesting movie maker Werner Hertzog - it relates to this subject tangentially.

This documentary is about Timothy Treadwell who would go every Summer to Alaska to live with the population of wild grizzly bears completely unarmed. They ultimately devoured him and his grielfriend in 2003. Herzog uses footage that Treadwell took with his camcorder for the last five Summers.

With a subject like Treadwell, obviously the subjects of environmentalism and
the people involved came up in the movie. He doesn't make Treadwell look like a wacko environmentalist, or a martyr either.

It is refreshing to watch a documentary that uses subtle analysis and allows the viewer to make up his own mind about a complex situation. Compared to Fahrenheit 911 or much of the stuff on Trio or Sundance, this is a wonderful breath of fresh air.

If you want to see a nice little movie, and you are tired of big budget Hollywood stuff - check it out. You will be riveted to the screen.
