This is really interesting to me. Boyfunk has historically been a solo site, but when we started adding 2 way and 3 way content, our members went wild... and we stopped getting complaints that we didn't have enough action scenes.
So are people telling me that there's a large segment that would *rather* watch single guys over action scenes?
no, no! we're not talking about solo action but about a single guy site. single girl sites often have sex - it's just that there is one star performer the site is about. josh is the focus of JustMe's new site - he has sex with lots of different people, and goes lots of places and does lots of things - so the site is all about josh.
single girl sites are the best retaining sites in the str8 market as a rule, especially if the star is involved and does a live cam and chat every week. the members feel involved with the star of the site, and get to like them and even - on chat and through emails - to know them. so you can imagine why those guys retain... it's almost like the star of the site is a friend or a lover.

Of course the other good thing with solo sites is that, if you have a good CMS is place, you realistically only need shoot about 10 sessions the rest of the site can be chats, blogs, forums etc etc.
By having 10 shoots and a good CMS in place, whenever a new member joins, you can show that member set 1+2 whilst members that have been in the site for 2 or more months get to see sets 1,2,3 and, 4+ all the while, the newest member not realizing that others who have joined before him have seen what he is about to see on his renewal membership

In our opinion, that's the WRONG way to do it, we've seen a few people in the gay market that play those games, and members show sites like that little to no love. We realize that other affiliate programs are worried about spitting out as many sites as they possibly can, as fast as they possibly can, with little regard to member experience or satisfaction. That's just not us.
One of the reasons why it took us so long to find the perfect model (literally months), is that we had to be sure that he'd be with us for the long haul. Some random twink that'd flake out after 2 months just wouldn't work for our business model.
We have Josh on staff FULL TIME. His site is the ONLY thing he does, and with all of his time and attention focused on his members, and SHOOTING NEW CONTENT EVERY WEEK, we believe that we have the magic formula.
We have developed a true partnership with Josh, which includes something almost unheard of in the gay marketplace, offering him % of GROSS INCOME.
On top of that, he gets his split every week directly from CCBill, so unlike many producers in the twink marketplace, our models know that they're getting exactly what they've been promised.
We feel that offering % of GROSS income paid directly from CCBill each week, is vital in keeping Josh, and our other models, around with us for a long, long time to come. That means that they'll be around to provide a personal level of entertainment to their members, which means rebills from now until kingdom come.
But by not having a good CMS in place that will allow you to do what i said you are i essence, making the members that join your site first, pay more than what a member should 3 months down the line.
The member who joins in 3 months time, gets to see ALL the content that the member who joined today saw, for the same price.
At the same time, you are having to constantly do at least one shoot each month, for the life of the site whilst, as i said, if you went with 10 shoots initially, whether the model is in it for the ling run or not, you have 10 updates that you dont have to worry about.
What happens if on month 6 your model flakes out on you? Your photographer gets taken ill? You run out of money for shoots for a month or two? You need to not only have enough shoots to run updates for the immediate future but, also to make sure that if the worse does happen, you have a period of time to work out an alternative option for the site.
By timing the updates based on how long a surfer has been a member, 10 shoots could, in essence, last you 10 months, giving you 10 months to build your income level at which point, you can shoot another 10+ months of updates.
Shooting content on a schedule, is hard at best. That was more my point, get as many shoots done now as possible so that you have onwards of 10 months not having to worry about getting new shoots done and during that time, any shoots that you do, extends your 'buffer' zone.

my experience with single girl sites is that if the members get all the content, and also updates, they have a tendancy to stay longer. and i'm talking an average of over 6 months per join... i really hope josh has that kind of retention *crosses fingers*

AH, I see what you're saying. Yes, we have litterally tens of thousands of pics, and over 36 hours of unused footage in reserve should we not be able to shoot for a week, or month, or longer, for any reason. That's why it took us 2 1/2 months to go live with the site.
The reason that we are shooting every week, is that we want Josh's members to experience his life as it happens, not as it exists according to a script, random updates, or something similar.
As for running out of money to shoot or whatever, I'm fortunate to have that not be a problem with me. My previous business ventures have left me in a good place financially, and Josh's site, along with everything else that we release, is well positioned to weather any financial storms.
If something happens with one of our models? That's why we plan on having a full set of single models hard at work full time. Should something unfortunate happen that causes one of them to quit, we'll simply introduce his members to our other models, and carry them over seamlessly.
Wow. If I saw my friend's membership and decided to join myself, I'd feel really ripped off. 'Course I guess that goes back to the same discussion about integrity and treating your members, vendors, affiliates, sponsors the way you'd want to be treated... to each his own....
Oh! Duh. Like Dirtyallie.com. Hmmmm. We have a couple models that would *love* to do that... I'll have to talk with them and see what could be arranged
