I did indeed see this thread in a BoardTracker notification.Originally Posted by Xstr8guy

There is one "cover your ass" clause on the page, having to do with

Technically speaking the proxy check service, an optional enhancement,
was provided free of charge "for a limited time" when it was introduced
about a year ago. It's been a year and we've yet to charge anyone for
that service, but the wording on the site indicates that it's possible
that some time down the road we could start charing a nominal fee
(no more than $5 / month) for that service. Any webmasters who didn't
want to keep the service wouldn't necesarily need to do anything to
stop using it and Strongbox would keep working normally (though
without that factor being used). That wording is there in case 5 years
from now there are a million sites using Strongbox and we were running
20 servers to answer proxycheck queries that needed to be paid for each
month or if we some day sold thecompany and the new owner didn't feel
they could continue to provide that service for free. Once again, that service
is not critical to the operation of Strongbox, we currently have no plans
to start charging for the service, and if we ever do start charging the fee
would be very low, maybe a choice of $3/month or $20/year, with discounts
for multiple domains. If we had a million sites that would be $3,000,000, which
would cover having a few servers answering queries.![]()
