That's true to some extent, but a good part of the legal benefits accruing to married couples come from federal law. I could probably deal with the discrimination in social security benefits, COBRA insurance law, and other federal financial matters, but when it comes to the pursuit of happiness for gay citizens, the Bill of Rights can ring a bit hollow.
