In my line of work I think repetition and getting my name out is very important. I go to a lot of events and try to spend a little time with as many people as possible. Usually each event can net 2 to 6 new clients which makes it worthwhile in itself. The real magic is that 2 of those new clients will end up referring me to someone else every six months, so my business is growing steadily through both new contacts and referrals. The direct contact and marketing has been instrumental for me.

Events are also good for catching up with current and former clients and just basic good PR. I give out a ton of no-cost legal advice at conferences!
