Whatever happened to Dawgy?

to be totally fair, I don't know if we ever heard his side of the story or if he was even convicted of anything...

that kid could have lied about his age (it's happened) and Dale maybe was dumb enough to not check his ID.

I liked him and I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.. but if it turns out that there's even SOME truth to it, then yes... throw him to the dawgs.

It could have been a photo shoot gone wrong or, not i dont think we'll ever find out.

Hmmm, interesting. So, by Canadian law, he didn't really do anything "wrong."

I'm sure Dale wasn't the only one responsible for what happened in this situation. I doubt the kid didn't realize that Dale was slightly older than him.

Remember that in Greek and Roman days, older men with younger boys was the norm. Maybe Dale was just initiating the kid the old fashioned way? Haha.

I'm kidding, obviously, but my views on this kind of thing are much more lenient than those of others. I don't believe in pedophilia by any means, but I do acknowledge that teenage kids can actively and with sound minds (for their age) consent to sex with pretty much any one they damn well choose to. I've posted this before, but when I was 12, I propositioned several older men. I even got into "trouble" for it when I was 14. I was a randy kid, and I didn't want to have sex with any of my boring friends. I wanted a daddy!

Did anyone ever see the movie For a Lost Soldier? It's a beautiful film on this subject.

Not that I condone the behavior by any means (Dale was old enough to have known better, unless he was duped into it by the kid, who may have lied about his age and called the cops just to get someone in trouble; shit can happen), but I think it's important to remember that these kids aren't always the victims that society pinpoints them as. There are some hellions out there who know exactly what they are doing when they get into stuff like this. Are they mentally competent in their teenage years? Perhaps not. But there are two sides to every story, and it would be interesting to hear what Dale had to say about this.

That actually really bothers me. What he does or doesn't do in his personal life is one issue, but shooting a 14 years for commercial purposes is WRONG and can get a lot of people in trouble, not just the photographer.

Just to clarify a few things about the age of consent in Canada... as it is relevent to why he isn't or was't charged with a sex crime.

The Government elected to place the age of consent at 14 to avoid the attempt by irate parents to punish their kids who had consentual sex with an older person, ie someone say who was 15 having sex with someone 16 or even 17. It was not nor is meant to be a case of older men Dale's age being allowed to have sex, but that is the downside to the law.

It was enacted because our governement recognized that teenagers are sexually active and that a hormone crazed teenager at 16 or 17 or 18 isn't going to think about such things. By placing the limit at 14, the hope was to remove the notion that parents could get back at the fiend who deflowered their precious innocent.

Secondly it was to avoid labelling such a juvenile as a sex offender for the rest of their life because some irate parent conned a prosecutor or some prosecutor decided to make a name for themself.

At the present time our brand of republicans are attempting to use that case and others as a reason for increasing the age to 16, there by once again creating the situation the law was designed to eliminate. It isn't perfect but at least we here are trying to accept reality. Kids have sex, we know it and the responsibility has to lie with the parents and not the court system to deal with over active teenage hormones. Hey, least that was the reason then.

As for the case regarding Dale, there were other charges levied according to the articles, which are supposed to cover those cases such as this one.

Anyhow, just some of the reasoning behind the 14 age limit.

I do not believe Dawgy got into this situation by accident--from what I hear this was Dawgy finally get caught. As a former prosecutor, I know that nobody ever got caught doing something--anything--stealing, drunk driving, lighting fires, or soliciting young boys for sex--the first time they did it [except MAYBE murder].
My question is, "How many times did he do this with young boys and NOT get caught??"

Iowa has a graduated system--where the age of consent is "kind of" 14. If you are 14 or 15 years old, you can have sex with someone who is up to 4 years older than you. If you are 16 or 17, it was up to 6 years older than you. If you are 18, then you are an adult and can sleep with anybody willing.
A 14 year old having sex with an 18 year old is fine, but a 14 year old and 22 year old is statutory rape. That allows for the sexual exploration of youth but criminalizes preying on youngsters. I thought that was a good compromise solution.

I disagree that he could have been fooled into thinking the 14yo was 18.

We're talking about someone who hung around guys 10, 12 years younger than himself. Someone who worked extensively with and shot twink porn. Such a person would know exactly what a legit 18yo looks like. An 8th grader just isn't going to pass.

You put a younger looking 18yo up against an older looking 14yo, they still aren't going to match.

I wonder too. I think this is something that should be of concern to Canadians. I wouldn't like my country to become a tourist destination for people looking kids, like Thailand and other countries in the Far East have become.

That system set up in Iwoa makes a lot of sense really.
