Internext as a business show; my thoughts

Oy! We made it HOME! We left outside of Vegas on Thursday and drove 17 hours, straight through ..

For us, the small company that we are, the cost of the Vegas was a good chunk of my marketing budget for this year, and yes I was dissapointed. The cost of the show floor passes, and being stuck in a back corner was VERY annoying. Who ever thought 3 shows running in one facility had visions of gradure or some bad weed - cause a casino ain't the Javits Center. $275 a person, and not a free cuppa coffee to be found! Cheap skates, who ever mounted it.

But being dissapointed didn't mean we didn't get some great business done. The question is .. could we have done it without the thousands of dollars spent? I think so, maybe ... time will tell. The focus of this trip was to introduce our partners, Brad and Diana to our associates and meet new sponsers with programs that fit our traffic hubs' needs. Those goals were met .. at a high cost.

I'd like to thank the folks at TopBucks, who had the best networking area of the whole show, the V Bar. I know everyone who hung out were spoiled by the great food and Service. You guys rock!

Big Props to Lee and Gary for the lovely party. I only attended 2 parties and it was the closing GWW I had the most fun at. Also the one where I got to spank more tasty boys than any ole FemDom could swing a spoon at. My only suggestion is to remember when ever you mix young men and booze, you should add some food. It was a real pleasure meeting you both, costs and petty annoyances are less of a factor when I get to bitch in person and put a face to the nicks. Back in October or November when it was time to start making plans for Vegas, I had a funny feeling that I shouldn't go. I sort of predicted most of the complaints that people expressed in this thread. As it turns out, it's a good thing I didn't go.

There was a bittersweet mix of good news/bad news in that I finally won the award for Best Blog Site, an acknowledgement from my peers that I really wanted badly. I would have relished that moment of walking up to accept the trophy in person, but it was not something I could have predicted.

On the same day that I found out I won an award for Best Blog Site, I also got "the call" that my mother had died. It softened the blow to receive the call while I was at my own home with my boyfriend at my side. I'm glad I followed my intuition to stay home from the conventions so I was able to respond quickly with a clear head.

I am back from the funeral now, so without getting too weepy here, my plan is to set up a series of one-on-one "touch-base" meetings with people I
choose to do business with as an alternative to big, expensive conventions. Contact me if we should talk.
