How much do you guys pay for bandwidth and what service do you get it from? .38 a gig exmasters.com

i've never worked with a paysite that went through 1000 gig on only 200 members. is that also counting fhg's or stuff like that outside the member area - or a tour with trailers?
so is it safe to assume that a new pay-site with about 20vids at 80MB each and 6MB of photos per vid, would be ok with a 10 MBPS Unmetered plan? The tour would only contain mid to small sized images of the 20 vids (at about 10kb each) with no actual vids in the preview.
How many members would you say you could have with this plan before you'd need to upgrade to a larger plan?

how often would the site update, how long in duration is each video on average, will the videos be shown in more than one speed?
a surprising number of people in our sites didn't watch the 768 videos but instead watched small or mediums. also in the case of clips, i noticed a lot of people watched only the first and last clip.
figure each member watches 5 full videos on his first visit, 2 more on his next - then if you don't update, he quits. if you DO update, he'll watch the update. if you update regularly, many of your members will watch every update.
we had clips and a lot of people didn't watch the full videos. We'd see them watch maybe 2 clips from each of 5 videos, so cutting the movies into clips helped bandwidth consumption. offering the medium and smaller sizes of movies helped, too.

When we first started to do VOD (video on demand) we tried to figure out how many people downloading x amount of files would cost....wow..I was way off.
But to start you may want to visit http://www.numion.com/Calculators/
They have some cool calculators.
For those that don't know much about bandwidth via 95th percentile check out google..or look at http://www.dls.net/support/kb/index.phtml?id=159
After our 100th server I relized that 95th percentile bandwidth saves us a LOT of money and we have more control over each site's bandwidth. THere is more you can adjust then if you were just billed at "x" per Y. You can also allow a larger cap to give users a faster download.
But also as important is the design of your delivery.
You can put a per user or per file cap on your downloads or streaming.
And watch your stats pages....you will start to see that not to many people have high speed yet. So you can ajust your stream or downloads based on this.
Bandwith to most of us is 90% of the cost of having a website.
It good to really understand what all this really works out to cost and how to take advantage of what your datacenter offers.
But please...
Avoid going really cheap and getting tier 3 bandwidth with tier three fiber. And always avoid the "unlimited bandwidth". There is no such thing...really...
the sites i'm talking about had 768k videos and plugins were very much not focused on.
