Incidentally, it looks like Brokeback is indeed opening doors for other gay and lesbian films to get made. As some of you may know, I also read scripts for production companies and studios here in town as a "reader" (or "story analyst," as we are also called), and I was just given a script to read that is gay-themed. I can't say much about it, apart from the fact that it, too, is based on a novel (by a pretty well-known author who's had another book turned into an Oscar-nominated movie with homoerotic undertones) and is also set in the 1950s, but the similarities end there. This one ends, notably enough, on a positive note for its characters. It's actually a very good script, and could also attract A-list talent, though it remains to be seen whether or not it will get the greenlight. Still, the good news is that the studios and production companies are at least considering such stories. At least I think so...
