I've certainly chatted online with a lot of gay guys from areas where there is little local gay community, and they seem to really take to whatever satisfying online gay community they can find. The more anonymous nature of internet identities is also a help for those wrestling with their sexuality. So it makes sense that for these gay guys they'd be more eager to embrace the new technologies.
