Hi Guys,
We are converting our live feeds from Emulive to Windows Media Player.
Any cam site owners out there have any pro's and con's of Emulive vs Windows Media Player?
It looks like all pro's so far to me. Any feedback would be great!

pros : cheaper. more flexability, full screen option, can run multiple encoders on 1 computer. cons: not supported on all operating systems

Awwww ((hugs)) Zac! Multiple encoders, you mean I can have multiple cams running on one pc?
Are the minimuim requirements low, it will run on older pc's?
we have upto 16 encoders running on 1 pc, albeit its a fast system, it wil depend on your hardwar , you wont need much drive space unless you want to record the live stream but you wil need a bunch of memory, we have 2 GB in our machines. I have run 2 cams on as little as a 500mhz but if you want high frame rates be looking at a 1.7 ghz or higher with at least 512MB ram.
let me know your payout and i will tell you what you need
oh another good thing. IF the computer is ONLY being used for encoding , they will hardly ever need a reboot. i thing our systems only reboot themseves when a patch is auto applied.
then they reboot and start the encoders right back up. Only time i touch em is when i dust them remember we run 56 cams bwtween 2 houses

We use logitech Orbitz Cam. We are looking at solutions for other cams though, would like wirless cams. Anyone have any feedback on those?
Only cams I could find were like Linksys cams, but the review wasn't good and they seem more like a security cam solution. Would like a wireless one so we could drag it to our pool.
we had a very bad experiance a while back with axis. I would never use them as they cant handle any real load, they are really for being able to allow mom and dad to check a house. What kind of cams do you use? Axis or regular ones?
we use real cameras ( as in ones with conposite video out ) to feed back to pro video capture cards. each card can capture 4 cameras at 30 FPS and you can put upto 4 cards in 1 machine.
we are moving to the new 560 line HD cameras for the house as these are producing an exceptional quality picture and even switch to black and white if the light gets too low rather than give a grainy picture.
beware there are so many many cheap cameras out there, look at 2 things when buying. the number of lines and the low lux value. we like the sony 3/4 inch ccd ones. ( remember we are NOT talking camcorders ) we are talking bullet cams they are about the size of an empty toilet roll.

Yeah looks like what we are using is the best option for our situation. Our models are all over the country and stream from their own homes to our servers. Our business model is a little different. I couldn't imagine having a house full of cam models, , I would go nuts!
Thanks for the info Zac! ((hugs)). I wanna come out for a visit there soon, let's get together and I will take you up on that visit, now I have more time to motor out there.
even with your model windows media is the way to go, it offers much flexability and very little overhead. get with me and I will show you some tricks ( of the technical type ) to ensure you can keep your encoders running on the models computers.
