LOL! I get that. Occasionally I've been known to walk out of a movie like Broken Hearts Club or Stepmom and say, "You know what? On a strictly "pedestrian" (for lack of better word) level, that was fun. It was totally sappy and formulaic, but I can see how some would find it entertaining."

I'm much more of a Bill Maher or Augusten Burroughs type of guy, where I think you can express the same sentiments without the shameless sentimentality. Tugging on the heartstrings, to me, is just such an easy way to go about it, so I don't have as much appreciation for it. I like wit and for people to be clever, rather than taking the easy way out. Her sentiments are fine; it's the execution I don't appreciate. Bad poetry offends me.

I suppose it's a bit of a curse that I am an entertainment journalist who writes reviews. I honestly have a hard time watching or listenting to anything with anything short of a critical eye (or ear). I immediately form opinions on everything I see because of this. Some of my friends get exasperated, as you can imagine. They all think I'm too opinionated. But if I wasn't, I wouldn't have a job.

Then again, I think I've been trained to not accept anything at face value, and analyzing is, to me, the difference between the sheep (followers) and the doers.

God, that sounds snotty! Sorry if it comes off that way. I'm just always in journalist mode.
