Dealing With Homophobia In Business? Have You Ever Had To?

So i was just wondering, after receiving a weird email from a program rep (non-adult) that i've been pushing the last few years how you folks dealt with homophobia in your business relationships?

I have to admit, this is the first time i have had any issues with a non-adult company not wanting any 'queer' traffic but thats their choice i guess.

So, other than the GFY types, have you encountered any homophobia in the adult industry or, in non-adult and, if so, how did you handle it?

I never had any issues with my ex-colleagues at my ex-day-work. For xMas one consultant gave away Santa Clauses and and Female Santas


I got a male one while all other colleagues got females, our assistant Britta got a male one, too

In the online biz I only deal with adult sites - so no issues. On webmaster gatherings here they are all straight except me and we have a blast together - no issues here, too.

I live in Edmonton, Alberta (Canada) and am subjected to intolerant people and acts, day-in & day-out. Whether they have issues with homosexuality (of course, only guys, because two girls getting ‘it’ on is sexy, and anything gay is NOT sexy...) or they are the ever-so-archaic racists.

How does one deal with such people? Simple … by keeping them far away ... far far away!

It’s become so tiring dealing with shitheads and trying to not get into aggressive or confrontational situations (avoid fights, when possible). However, I, as many others, sometimes cave. (A bit of a Neanderthal attitude, but I do sometimes like it when a person with low tolerance barks at me, and I decide it is time to show them my teeth. It makes me feel slightly better, briefly.)

As for work related scenarios; I believe in boycotting, because ultimately, it is not about the money!

in buisness it's just that , i have several clients (adult/mainstream) that purchase product and we've had lunch while they make "gay jokes" , i've had a couple in the past find out i was gay and apologized.
i don't believe in letting personality/politics/etc. get in the way of buisness and who i sleep with should have no effect on the work i produce , if this is something in your buisness charter be prepared to starve.

the fourth guy returns from the restroom. the first three explain they are telling stories about their son's successes.

4th guy - "well i'm embarassed to admit that my son is a major disappointment. he started off a hairdresser and is still a hairdresser after 15 years in fact i just found out that he's gay and has several boyfriend's , but i try to look at the bright side , his boyfriends just gave him a new mercedes , a new house , and 1 million in stock for his birthday.

Said that men into muscle wanted "real men" and not fags.

Actually Lee... now that I think about this....

I was in straight porn really early on in this game. I have run into FAR more prejudice for being a straight pornographer than I ever have for doing gay porn.

I have had otherwise reputable business people rip me off, overcharge me, and treat me really badly --- and it always felt like there was an attitude behind it of "Its okay to screw her over because she is just a pornographer / slut etc.... and those kind of women are bad and deserve it" Also... in some cases, this bad attitude arose only AFTER my gender was discovered.

Strangely enough... this nastiness usually came from OTHER people who were also making thier money on porn (though sometimes in denial about it... example, some of the billing processors, folks from the card companies, someone who owned dating sites etc....)

In the "gay scene" - I haven't seen a lot of this nastiness. The gay world is far more sex positive than the straight world, and this includes the webmasters. In the "straight" world, I have seen models called whores - to thier faces, I have heard the crews talking about "this slag, that slut, this bitch...." - I have NEVER heard a gay webmaster denegrating his/her models.

Just food for thought... and why I will NEVER do straight porn again.
