panasonic has a very good auto setting - so good that it convinced us to buy a panasonic camera, as well. in fact, the 300 sounds good enough to use as a backup. i think i'll be buying one. thanks!

i am not a fan of JVC camcorders myself as i don't care for the video quality, and let's face it - features don't matter if your videos look muddy and flat. perhaps there are some good ones out there that i haven't seen.

You really think the baby brother Panasonic PV-GS300 MiniDV is a real viable option? I did look at the Panasonic_PV_GS500 model you have now, but its only getting a .2% higher ranking. I am just wondering if I could get away with the 300 and maybe get 2 of them. Of course I can get a ok deal on the model you have as well so no mater what I think I will get 2 of them unless you see a problem with that.

I am just not really that sure about this Cam stuff at all

Hey Bass I am getting ready to order a video camera and I was looking at the one you said you used PV-GS250. From what you said this is a better cam than the PVGS300, but I saw a review of the 250

(But that otherwise excellent model turned out to have an unfortunate flaw: its electronic image stabilization didn' t work very well, resulting in shaky footage.)

Do you still think the 250 is better than the 300? I know you said you where going to order the 300 as a back-up just wondering how that worked out.

The price is not important here at all really, in fact I can get the PV-GS250 that you have for less than the baby brother 300.

check out the user reviews. editors don't really use the equip for that long - users do.

check where both stand in the ratings and go read reviews and specs.

THax bass but I think I am more lost than when I started, they both have the same rating. I guess unless you or anyone else can see a problem I am going to get what you have or had (PV-GS250) seems this one is better from what little I can tell.

God help us all, but next year I hope to be creating a large amount of my own exclusive content. I am really existed, but hope I don’t get in trouble. I will shot reality stuff I am sure, but might be some drinking, fake pot, guys saying “No Please Stop” and such. I just wonder how far I can take things, it will be mostly fake I assume but I do want to make PORN and some of it might look like I am pushing some consent issues or breaking them. :fool:

agreed! , equipment priced "in-between" keep in mind "ease of operation" and "compatibility" with a computer.
i would also advise speaking with someone/site/etc. who's photography interests you! , they may be able to help you further!
i would not suggest anything used , most likely you are dealing with someone else's problem and/or in the event you don't like/not working you can always return it with reciept.

    Photography or Videography?

And with the two - you can't go by "Style" as your reference to purchase equipment.

Photography: Slava Mogutin uses a small quick click camera costing around $120.00 to produce gallery sold photography

    Example:

Videography: Ron Howard and David DeCoteau shoot on 35mm film Panasonic cameras. Again, Style comes into play. Not the equipment.

    STYLE!

    Something our industry desperately needs

However, when porn gets style doesn't it turn into erotica or art, at which point it stops turning people on?

Ya man these HD cams are not going to work for this reality stuff, I need a good cam that takes good stills, but I do want to keep some amateur feel to it.

I just hope the quality of the 250 will be enough that if I need to in a few years I can possible create real DVD’s with this stuff.

photography primarily , in regards to "style" agreed you cannot base a decision to purchase solely on that , my suggestion was that he speak to someone to get a better understanding of what is involved if he decides to pursue photography. (honestly i would ask questions of someone's work i liked v.s someone's i didn't , but maybe that's me)

ah, but we're talking about video cameras (see thread title).

and a really cheap video camera in the $200 to $300 range often makes very low resolution video that just doesn't have enough lines to do the job.
