Perhaps you werent present in Vegas a year or two ago when the 'winner' for a certain award was changed at the last minute... Right before they were announced live.. Because the company in question hadnt won any of the other awards they were 'nominated' for up until that point in the evening.

As one of the owners of the company that 'won' told me later that night...

'it doesnt matter if you win or lose an award, if you think these awards mean anything to anyone in the industry (except the organizers) you are kidding yourself'

I've never looked to be nominated for anything, but being nominated let's me know that someone out there has acknowledged the work I do, and that feels good. It also feels good being acknowledged by write ups in industry mags (not paid write ups either).

I'll never get nominated for Best Actor or Humanitarian of the year, so getting recognized for my work on jasunmark.com which isn't a porn site but a site dedicated to gay bikers is cool and makes me feel like I'm maybe reaching someone...

Damn right I believe it. The award we won in Janurary as Best Voyeur site matches with our rankings with our clients as well.

I don't know anyone personally at CyberSocket and I have never advertised with them, so how did we win in Janurary? Do you have any more evidence then that one story you mentioned??

Why would they create a fake awards ceremony, be kind of pointless for them to go through all of that hassle and expense if it wasn't based on real votes? What would be their motive?

Regardless, it's nice to be mentioned anyway and congrats to those past winners and current nominees. Rock on!

Well it may not be the Pulitzer but im very happy that MAP is nominated for two awards this year.

Its very rewarding to see your hard work being recognised in this way, especially when so many people said we would never go big or 'mainstream' with a suit-theme site. that'll show them....

Dont get me wrong, i like the guys at cybersocket and do work with them.

However I do think that its strange that bad or non working sites gets as far as the final list together with great sites like ones from you guys on the board here.

I think the award would have been seen as better if those not so good sites hadnt made it to the list.

User / vistiors feedback I found has always been very hard to get and I often doubt who makes these nominations. Some cases are clear you all got great sites but who the hell nominates for example:

WOW! I can't believe it... UKnakedmen.com is nominated for "Best European Themed Site"! And we have only been in existence for a few months. It's really an honor to be in a category with some of my all-time favorite sites.

i'm with bjorn here. i mean, sure - i'd have been happy to be nominated, but since cybersocket has no kind of quality guidelines or anything else, all a site needs in order to be nominated was to have the owner email a buddy and say "hey, nominate my site".

i've been inside of some of the paysites nominated for awards and some are pretty poor quality with little content, poor navigation and nothing to make them personal. i reviewed one of the sites listed and the site didn't have any videos and had 16 - count 'em, 16 - pic sets.

i'd love to see honest awards in the industry where the sites - amateur or pro - that deserve recognition because of excellence of content, excellence of design, excellence of concept or user friendliness or fresh and exciting content are nominated to win.

don't get me wrong - some, like chilihost - deserve to be nominated. but being one of the best sites in some way means a lot more than being listed with a group of sites whose only thing in common is that the site owners and their friends bothered to nominate the sites when most of us didn't bother to nominate anyone. and why? because the winners are so rarely the best - they are just the ones where the webmasters get their surfers or friends to vote without even seeing the site.

Congrats to everyone that got nominated. I agree with you basschick I think they need to step up these awards and really get quality better and defintely place put down some guidelines. I mean don't get my wrong I am SO happy we were nominated for quite a few awards but like gaydemon said seeing that sites like http://www.fathairycocks.com/ in the list just doesn't make sense.
