CyberSocket web awards nominations

I promote them Lee? How do I do this? Other boards? I am on this board and unity360.

Only thing you could get this from is in my signature that says Voted Best Voyeur site. That isn't promoting cybersocket but stating we are a quality website which also put us #1 on Badpuppy this year and also ranks us #1 on almost all of our clients sites.

The only place I have ever advertised is on here. So I guess I promote GWW now, huh?

This has nothing to do with any 'beef' with Cybersocket, GWW was also nominated for an award so, its not a case of sour grapes like someone else suggested.

The fact of the matter is, if it wasnt for these 'awards' nobody would know who Cybersocket was and, nobody would be talking about them.. Period.

Yes you have promoted them on the boards, for a start, you created this thread, also, as i recall, last year your sig had something along the lines of 'cybersocket winner' plastered in it and, i beleive you were even considering mentioning them on some banners you were going to get created.

What this comes down to is this, Cybersocket are running a business, they are trying to make money and, if they didnt have these awards ceremonies, they couldnt charge their sponsors for the parties how much they charge them and, i guarantee the amount they get in sponsorship is nowhere near what they pay for the parties.. Trust me on this... We actually returned funds to the sponsors of our GWB events because our sponsorships pulled in more money than we could physically spend in 3 hours.

Anyone who thinks that Cybersocket, Xbiz, ANV, or any other type of 'awards' organizer is doing it because they want people to feel good about their accomplishments quite frankly, are crazy. These companies have awards for one reason, to grow their business, either in traffic, branding or financially.

What they are doing is called marketing and advertising. Just like you do! If we weren't here you couldn't charge $850 dollars for a one month ad. You do the same thing, so what! Tv commercials do the same thing! It's a business! How many thousands a month do you rack up from advertisers?

Regarding me promoting them, that's bullshit. I started this post as a congratulations to those that won, not to promote CyberSocket other then they are the one and only doing the awards at the moment.

I have no problem with Lee. I respect everyone's views even if I tend to disagree with his. Great thing about a democracy, we can do that.

Anywho I am done with this debate. I have stated and justified my opinions and that's good enough for me. This was fun, but has consumed way too much of my time and I need to focus my time back on my business.

I think what Lee is trying to say is that there is more going on behind any awards show than simply altruistic reasons. I don't think it's a question of ethics, Jacob. It's also business. That's all Lee is pointing out, from what I gather. Whether or not that detracts from the pride of being nominated, however, is up to you.

Just because a company puts on an awards show to boost their brand recognition does not automatically discount their intentions. We've all gathered by now that Lee is pretty much a cynic who is skeptical about everything. Meanwhile, as a businessman, he recognizes the efforts of others to increase their own presence and profitability. However, the thing that is wrong with that scenario is that not all business folk think the same way. For one business person to claim they know the motives and intentions behind the efforts of others is rather arrogant and presumptuous.

As I said before, I think it's best to take the awards with a grain of salt. I think Lee is trying to point out that the awards do not measure with any accuracy the supposed excellence of any site nominated. And both he and Patti have a point on that. But that doesn't mean that you can't still take pride in being recognized by somebody.

So, don't let the nay-sayers and the pessimists get you down, Jacob. It's not worth it.

When you win something (or get nominated for something) without knowing what the criteria for nomination / winning are, the award or nomination is of no value but, like you also said, the fact that an award is worthless doesnt mean you cant celebrate being nominated or winning the award, however mediocre it may ultimately be.

Im simply trying to point out to some of you that the awards mean absolutely nothing at all except to the person that 'wins' or the awards company... Yet many of you dont seem to be understanding that any award is worthless if you dont know...

1) Why you were nominated
2) Who nominated you
3) What the judging criteria is for the nomination
4) How it can help your business

Lee, you can hardly compare the GWB events to cybersocket parties.

We've hosted HUGE primetime parties before like QFest and Passion Reaction. When you're spending 10k-15k on liquor and food, 5k for the penthouse or other venue rental, and another 5-10k on miscellaneous things like promotional banners, branded napkins and cups, models, bartenders, transportation, gratuity..and thats just one for night, trust me sponsorships rarerly if ever cover the cost of parties where guests receive VIP treatment. Then add on the administration costs and man hours that it took to plan and promote the event. Talkin Bookuu dollars man.
