India and Pakistan had successful underground nuclear testing in 1998. I wouldn't be surprised if Pakistan sold this technology to North Korea, China and Iran. Remember China just completed successful experiments with a laser that blacked out our Satellites spying on them (source). It's also entirely possible that China is using North Korea as their scapgoat for nuclear testing. Remember, China stands to overtake the U.S. as the next world economic leader in the next 10-20 years.

Don't you find it odd that 5 days after China jams our satellites their neighbor North Korea successfully tests a nuclear device? I don't.

The problem is not that they may strike the usa with a missile, like max points out, the usa has a much bigger arsenal and has shown a willingness to use it. The thing i worry about is if they decide to pass this crap onto the usa's other enemies. The nuke in a briefcase has to be a massive worry for the States and its friends.

This has also set global nuclear decomissioning way back. How can anyone now seriously consider getting rid of our nuclear weapons? I hate nuclear weapons but im now certain the UK government will build more (its on the agenda to renew Trident this year), sadly i now think the UK would be idiots not too.

Aside from their lack of human rights, they are also a dictatorship. Aside from that the U.S. has become increasingly dependent upon cheap Chinese imports, as a lot of the world has. Imagine how many U.S. businesses would go OUT of business without cheap Chinese imports. Right now, we are very vulnerable.

Post WW II Treaties do not allow nuclear weapons on Japanese soil or in Japanese waters; not even US nuclear warships are welcome there.

However, I think China is concerned that a North Korea isolated from the rest of the world would result in a North Korea as a source of jobless impoverished refugees fleeing to China to survive, and a North Korea that has no means of supporting the basic needs of its people. As North Korea's closest neighbor, China would shoulder the burden of much of the civilian chaos that would result from UN isolation.

Ya man I do know about all that, but we are the once that really created that treaty. I know their is allot of talk about putting nukes in Japan now (even though from what I know that would not be a very popular idea in Japan) Now I do think most of this is just talk to scare China, but if things keep going down this road I can see it happening.

Ya you are right though China does not want to have to feed all Korea’s people as well, the whole situations is really fucked up. Again if you ask me we need to put allot of pressure on China about this and threatening to make Japan go nuclear would sure as hell do that. Trust me the last thing they want even less than feeding the Korea’s is have their long time enemies (Japan) have nukes right off their coast.

I don't mean to offend anyone here, but honestly, at this point, I'm feeling like the world could us a good extermination right now of a lot of types. The religious do this every few hundred years. They get all in arms and holier then thow, and the rest of humanity pays the price, then the surviving zealots feel God is on their side and wants them to continue, that's why they lived. :maxpower:

I say bunker down, let them all kill eachother, then when it's all over, exterminate the remaining judgemental religious bastards and have a clean society of people who believe in the power and spirituality of the universe, love, and acceptance.

I for one would love to see the organized religions take each other on, so we can all be rid of them! They are way beyond obsolete.

Do you honestly think this problem (islam/muslim vs. christian/catholic) would go away, with out a war?

Both side have been at each other's throats for centuries, and neither Bush nor the likes of will be able to stop it, or the act of "terrorism".

I like the first idea, better: rid the world of those two and we will all be living better!

In a way I do understand why Bush does not really want to talk with these Governments. Seems all it ends up in is them asking for more and more compensation for their bad behavior, and these are Governments we want to overturn and by talks with them it also does legitimatize them in a way. All that said we should still have back door talks with these people, but not sure we should give them anything more does not seem to work every well in the long run.

I don't think they have the technical ability to reach the US with a missile at this point. As others have pointed out, they are more likely to either hit on an American ally or maybe aid terrorist groups in getting their bombs.

I have to say that in any unlikely scenario, I hope there is never some automatic retalation that results in any country being "wiped off the map". Countries have civilians in them, men, women and children. What their crazy government does, they do not necessarily support, and a mass death sentence isn't necessarily the answer or the moral thing to do.
