    is he shooting in pal?

    Yes. But I encode in PAL and it doesn't make any difference in the above stated dimensions when I encode... as far as I know.

    far as I know, the only differences are in frame rate, which shouldn't impact aspect ratio at all. I know our camera, the DVX-100, uses the same CCDs in the European/PAL version, just the internal software that controls frame rates is different.
