I believe it! Always seemed to me like someone tried to kill it. It was too unifying. It had every stripe out there dancing and having fun together and that simply couldn't be tolerated.

Just saw him on this VH1 countdown of the greatest 80's songs. To me his greatest song wasn't "Blinded Me With Science", but his collaboration with George Clinton "May the Cube Be With You" and "Hyperactive".

I like both of those songs a lot. I always thought the Buggles were saying "put the blame on VCR!" for some reason.

You're close. He says, "put the blame on VTR", which stands for Video Tape Recorder. That's what they used to store videos on before digital came along. The idea that the videos (on the video tape recorder) ruined the great stars of radio because once videos came into fashion the performers had to be "beautiful" and have screen presence to make it. It's a lot like the movie Sunset Blvd.
