Should I give my home/business phone number out to everyone inside my site, maybe even in my profile on this board I can trust you guys right? Or is this a bad idea? I would really like to offer more personal options where ever I can, and really believe talking on the phone can be so much more productive, but again I do NOT wannabe killed one night while taking a shower.
If you want to be more personable then give out a number they can reach you at.
It's the holidays and a personal touch goes a long ways this time of year. Great customer service, or servicing your customers, is the best way to stay in business and get a leg up on your competitors.
Don't worry about the shower Max, most non domestic related murders happen during the victims sleep, not in the shower.

One alternative would be putting up a Skype nickname so they could Skype you (this benefits them as it's free, plus you because your # is no longer in the picture). You could try other messengers as well, most of the adult webmasters I know use ICQ.
Ya I use AIM, but still not the same, I really want to assure people I will be here to “talk” if their is a problem, how many people will ever call anyway. Its more of safety blanket I can offer, and maybe a better way to have longer discussions about things. Personally I think 10 minutes on the phone can go a long way sometimes. Text is just Text at the end of the day

That’s weird man, every time I see a guy on TV from Australia they are fucking with some crocodile, being eaten by a great white shark or shooting kangaroos. How can guns be outlawed, I was wanting to go on a kangaroo hunt someday, now looks like I will have to settle for a late night swim in the ocean near those wetlands.
The only downsides to posting your phone number in the member area are:
(a) getting calls that are really general tech-support issues that don't relate to problems with your site
(b) getting old guys calling who are obviously jerking off while talking to you and asking all sorts of nasty detailed questions about the models.... and sometimes about you personally (AJ gets "You sound cute" on the phone all the time)
(c) People are completely clueless and will call you at 4AM or 6AM or other inopportune times.
(d) People who aren't quite all there that will call multiple times in a row and ask the same questions because they have memory loss.
(e) Nice guys who are lonely and as soon as they figure out there's someone they can talk to, they will call a bunch of times.
We have had all of the above at one time or another.
If you can be graceful and subtle on the phone, you can get rid of most of the pesky people fairly easily without offending them, but there will be a few here and there that just don't "get it" and you'll probably have to be somewhat rude to get rid of. I question whether the benefit (or perceived benefit) is really worth the effort you'll put into it, but I applaud the effort to provide a personalized experience for the member.

I opted to live in one of the "hardest" parts of town (118thAve & 124St) in Edmonton, (peeps are more than smart enough to mind their own bidness) and the only thing that I fall asleep with in hand is my :p
Maybe my knowing that Gangster#1 (my large cat) has got my back allows me to sleep with both eyes closed.

Ya man, I really look at this whole thing as a (perceived benefit) to the members, do not really expect to many calls from anyone that is not an affiliate or connected to this board. I must say that list is not to comforting you know, I just hope you pay your receptionists very well, but I must say if need be I assure you I can be “somewhat rude” anytime its needed.
I was even thinking about this 1(800)# stuff just to have a voice mail for viewers and affiliates to use. Really paycom takes care of most of this stuff for me, and their support contacts are all over my site, just would like to back them up if need be.
