Thread: Going on Judge Judy?

I've always thought AJ was really cute, but it seems to me that he's really too quiet and shy to appear on something like Judge Judy. You know you all may have had an opportunity during Internext to see the Judge Judy people, because NATPE was going on at the Mandalay Bay concurrently (the national assoc of television professionals who sell their shows to tv stations)

Although let's not close the door on syndicated television appearances.

Perhaps a group of us should all lobby Merv Griffin to create a special week on Jeopardy with gay adult webmaster contestants, a la celebrity jeopardy week, or college jeopardy week.

The plot thickens... this morning, we got a call from Judge Joe Brown's show as well, which is funny, because I told AJ that if we were going to go on *any* show, I'd much rather go on Judge Joe Brown than anybody else. His persona is definitely one of a no-bullshit guy.

But... we are about 99% certain that we're just going to go to plain old Placer County Small Claims and try the case.

Oh, and Steve... I can totally see why you'd say that about AJ, but you haven't seen him in his element. He does most of our negotiations, and the industry people who've had a business discussion or negotiation with him can attest that the quiet, shy little guy you see at shows is *totally* a veneer. He's actually more outspoken and confident than I am in many cases, and I have no doubt that he'd be able to handle anything thrown at him without being fazed.

    I still think it's a HORRIBLE idea.

he may be "no bullshit" but the viewers just want to see the evil porno peddler, and no matter how good he is in person, they can fix that with editing.

and it's maybe not as smarmy as Judge judy, but it's still pretty smarmy.

    (Whatever happened to Judge Wopner?)

it doesn't matter how well aj presents himself - he looks young, which with most people means they won't listed no matter what, and it's not like a tv judge is going to let him get going. and if they do, you can plan on the show being edited for maximum drama, so anything of import aj says is just as likely to be edited out.

Judge Joe Brown has the air of that guy who is calm and "normal" now, but probably killed once or twice as a kid.

LOL am i wrong though? Look at that guy - the air about him. I'll bet it would be weird to be a judge knowing you've killed a couple of times. or maybe that's the reason someone would pursue law in the first place ...

That and the insane amounts of money that can be made.

Thanks to all who gave us advice.

We went to court today, Judge David Somebody (of Placer County Small Claims) presided. After 6+ hours of watching what was essentially the same people you'd see on Judge Judy or People's Court, we presented our case, and won.

We were really well prepared, but there were a couple of potential (techncal) problems, we were close to the statute of limitations, and it was arguably not the right county to sue. Fortunately, he was a dumbass and, although he tried, he couldn't figure out how to get it dismissed on those grounds. Other than that, it was pretty mcuh a shoe-in.

He did provide some entertainment, though. First, he tried to claim that we "tricked" him by telling him that he would be doing a mainstream website, not an adult one... except that we were able to show that he had done other adult work for us, for which he'd been paid, before the date he acknowledged as the first meeting on this project. Then he perjured himself in several other ways, and he couldn't even keep track of his own lies. The judge saw through it in about 15 seconds.

The best part is, apparently he has (or can get) some money, because the judge asked how long it would be for him to pay, and he said a week. We were fully expecting him to cry poor and to have to do an asset search.

We weren't sure where he was living, so the way we served him was to have our process server show up at his movie premiere. Needless to say, he was pretty upset... and tried to tell the judge that we'd attempted to publicly defame and embarrass him, but the judge pretty much blew him off.

Just another dumb gay boy, I guess.

Anyway, we'll see if the check shows up next week.

Thanks again for everyone's input. Particularly given the way he lied, this would totally not have played to our advantage on any of the shows, even though it's fun to have thought about doing it, if only for a second.

Did the process server at least buy a ticket to the movie?

Well, to give you some idea how good a business guy our web designer/movie producer guy is... the process server got there a few minutes after the movie started. He went to buy a ticket and the ticket window people (who were working for the producer, not the theater) said "Oh, the movie is already started, and we're counting the money." So the process server said "Well, can I buy a ticket?" and they said "No." And he said "Well, can I go in anyway, then?" And they said "I guess so."

    So he went in free.

The last chapter in this little saga: AJ got a notice from the court today. Our guy went in on the 14th (the last date the court gave him to pay) and paid the full amount of the judgement ($2000 + $80 in court fees) in certified funds. We just have to go by and collect a check from the court.

We were both pleasantly surprised that he actually paid without our having to chase him, but it's a nice little Valentine's gift that brings closure to this little affair.
