They were just talking about something similar on Feast of Fools (my favorite podcast) the other day. GLAAD is demanding that Paris Hilton make a public apology about making comments about gay people and black people. One of the frequent co-hosts of the show made the comment that we should not ask someone like that to make an apology because at least being public with their opinion we know where they stand. The apology doesn't take away what they said and it doesn't change their opinion. What good is it? It's like that whole Michael Richards thing. There were people and organizations who demanded a public apology and what good did it do? You got to watch him stew for a few minutes and now he'll know to only make those kinds of statements to his own close group of friends, out of the public eye.
Let Hardaway make an ass out of himself. Then we, as a community, will know what team not to support, and what games not to watch.

And yes, I know what the next comment is... Why punish a whole team because of one guy, well any team that would allow a comment to be made like that without removing that person, or at least suspending him, does not deserve our money. I won't demand such action take place but if it doesn't then I know not to support them."

Well for the record, I hate biggots, and i certainly let that be known.
Going by the same set of standards everyone is placing on Hardaway for his comments, i must also be 'punished' for my views after all, im 'sending a message home' to anyone who is reading this -- especially to biggots.
Regards,
Lee

You dont see the irony with that statement? LOL
To many, being homosexual 'is just plain wrong' also.
Thats part of the problem with the whole 'equal rights' thing, irrespective of what side of the argument you sit on, very few people can actually see the other sides viewpoint because they are so blinded by being 'right' themselves.
Theres their veiwpoint, the right one, and everyone elses which is wrong.
Regards,
Lee
But of course I see the irony. That's why I included the smiley face, Lee. I was BEING ironic by making the statement. It's called humor. Look it up.
But let's be REAL here, OK? There are times when you have to believe that something is inherently "better" than something else, and I would say that letting people live their lives and be happy is much better than hating a whole group of people for no apparent reason. Bigotry is considered "wrong" by the overall majority, and with good reason. That's why there are laws in place to protect people from hate crimes and such. The government has weighed in to say that the United States will not accept such displays of bigotry. When there are laws in place to prevent people from acting upon their bigotry, I'd say that pretty much backs up my statement that sometimes there IS a right and a wrong.
Sure, people can spout off at the mouth all they want, and you're right in one respect: Such brutal honesty is a "good" thing, because it helps to bring controversies such as this one to light, and as they say, "any press is good press." The more that idiots like Hardaway come out and make statements like that--and the more gay people come forward after being bashed or discriminated against--the more advancement it brings to gay rights in general. The American public is beginning to sympathize with gays now more than ever, and I think the majority of intellectual people will dismiss Hardaway's statements for what they are: a crude display of stupidity and ignorance, not to mention arrogance.

Shocking what an idiot Tim Hardaway is to say such garbage
Well he's a biggot that's backtracked what he said now:
"I've very sorry. That's- That's no doubt about it. I'm very, very sorry about it. But, you know, a lot of people don't think so, but I am."
"As an African American I know all too well the negative thoughts and feelings hatred and bigotry cause."
Nice to see the NBA fired his ass as a representative because of his bigotry and he is banished from making future appearances on behalf of the NBA.
Oh Lee the people you "admire for speaking their mind" ~ please , for your own benefit, find new role models :high:
Can't see why people can't just live and let live, personally.
