Ohio Rep. Dennis J. Kucinich has postponed the news conference he had scheduled for noon Tuesday to introduce articles of impeachment against Vice President Dick Cheney, citing reports that Cheney required medical attention Tuesday morning.

Kucinich — a longshot contender for the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination who strongly opposes the Bush administration and the Iraq war — said in a statement, “News reports this morning indicate the vice president was experiencing a medical crisis. Until the vice president’s condition is clarified, I am placing any action on hold.”

The reference to a “crisis” appears based on news reports early Tuesday that Cheney required emergency treatment for a chronic blood clot condition. These reports were later amended based on statements from the vice president’s office that the medical exam was routine.

Cheney visited his doctor Tuesday morning for an ultrasound to check on a blood clot in his leg — known as a deep venous thrombosis — that first was discovered in March. The condition can be life-threatening if a clot breaks off and makes its way into the lungs, causing what is called pulmonary embolism.

“The ultrasound was reassuring and showed that the clot is gradually resolving,” said spokeswoman Megan McGinn after Cheney’s examination. “His blood-thinning medication was found to be in the desired range. The vice president’s doctors advised him to continue the current course of treatment.”

After the appointment at George Washington University Medical Faculty Associates on Tuesday morning, Cheney returned to his normal schedule, McGinn said.

Kucinich’s press secretary, Natalie Laber, said the office would not comment on the postponement of the event unveiling Kucinich’s proposed articles of impeachment, which has not yet been rescheduled.

I assume he postponed it because he didn't want Cheney to seem like a victim (ie sick in hospital when a political attack is lodged against him). I'll be happy to see impeachment proceedings begin. They've always said they'd go for Cheney first, then Bush. I think they'll wait to go for Bush until closer to election time, if at all.

I'm shocked that any dems are doing anything after hearing Pelosi saying there would be no impeachment proceedings on the floor.

There has been so much scandal in this administration that the only conclusion is that Bush and Cheney were running it all. Just to much of a coincidence that Bush supports to the end everyone who's been found to be corrupt.
