What can be expected if this is a scandal in Iran.

    Ahmadinejad accused of indecency
President Ahmadinejad kisses his teacher's hand
The gesture that got Mahmoud Ahmadinejad into trouble
Iran's president has come under fire from a conservative newspaper after he publicly kissed the hand of a woman who used to be his school teacher.

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, a conservative by the standards of Iranian politics, was attacked by the Hezbollah newspaper for acting "contrary to Sharia law".

It accused him of "indecency and violating religious values".

The elderly woman at the centre of the controversy was wearing thick gloves, a headscarf, and a long black coat.

Ahmadinejad, better known in the west for his fiery anti-Israel rhetoric and his staunch defence of Iran's nuclear program, has been criticised in the past by ultra-conservative elements in Iran.

He once suggested that women should be allowed to watch football matches. This proved highly controversial and was turned down.

aren't you contradicting yourself just a little??? so the iranian government can hang gays and kill pornographers (which btw is their law and who are we to say what another countries laws should be. it's based on that countries values, culture and history), but here you are saying that yeah, Bush would also do the same (if not worse) is he had the power to do so??? Doesn’t make any sense

the people in iran have been oppressed and beaten down by the totalitarian government for so long that they no longer have the power to bring change or even care too. They're just trying to live their lives and make the best of it with what they're given.

and trust me, the views of the iranian government are HARDLY shared by (all) the people of iran!! and what if they were? don’t most americans share the views of the american government?

ok sure, because it's a personal attack now. we're gay and he's attacking us so of course it makes sense.

but if it were the Iraqis or the Iranians or whoever else that may seem like a threat, then lets go a head and bomb them!!

I was being sarcastic about bombing them to oblivion. I've posted on here quite a few times before about my best friend growing up who was Iranian. He taught me to speak some Farsi and his family was so close and loving. Really great people. The father was a dentist and they escaped to America from Iran. There were about 20 Iranians in our small town community, that I knew of.

I think their government should be overthrown and/or leaders assassinated. I'm not saying it's our responsibility to do that, Saudi Arabia should do it.

Bush has made no secret of his wanting to take more rights away from homosexuals, and women btw. Bush has also said that being a dictator would be so much easier

I don't like to see oppression in the world, anywhere. I've travelled a lot and have seen first hand how oppressed people live. When people are equal it lifts and empowers the spirit.

    And no I wasn't contradicting myself, I don't think

Yeah, i guess the part that really got to me was the "bombing them to oblivion" part

And I had heard you mentioning your Iranian friend so i was really surprised to hear you say that. Especially since I think you're one of the more reasonable guys here.

Anyway, I know how it could be easy for someone to see something on TV or read something in the paper and assume it's all entirely true, and make a quick judgment. But it’s not always as it seems in our media, and we could never understand a certain situation unless we speak to those people directly affected (in this case the people in Iran)

I took a moment to see who this band was and read their bio:

Founded in 2001 by a group of young Tehran artists and art students, 127 has found itself at the center of progressive cultural change in Iran. The band's music melds Iranian melodies and jazz with an alternative sound. The band's lyrics tell of the frustrations and joys of life, somehow managing to speak of their cultural time and place, while simultaneous reflecting universal frustrations of isolation, frustration, and hope. 127 is a 5 piece band -guitar,piano,trombone,bass and drums. the group has become a lighning-rod for international media attention. Through humerous articles and broadcasts in the western media, the group's website receives thousands of hits a month from a growing international listeners. ...

Before you go on about "nuking" a country because of it's political leaders and policies, take a moment to think about the people who live in that country. And think again what our country looks like from the outside. The US can be seen as an aggressive country that attacks others (without much reason, some would say) and who regularly denies basic civil rights to many of it's own people.
beautifully said! Are you sure you're not Canadian? :groovy:

you know...I am a Black gay adult producer adn I take HUGE exception to your word choice

When you get right down to it times haven't changed that much because the use of the word and the thoughts and sentiments behind the use of the word ARE THE SAME ONES that drive these other cultures (AND OURS) to kill gays and kill and discriminate against Blacks in this country.

What I've found out over the last few years with the right wing running this country and hate groups growing we are back in the 50's again. Let me find my white shirt and black pants.
