Clearing checks internationally is a PAIN IN THE ASS. It takes my bank at least 3 weeks plus they charge me $35 to deposit a euro-denominated EU check. They treat it like it was forged -- they even put it into a little envelope all by itself and send it off to some special place where I am convinced spells are cast and fingerprints are dusted to ensure the validity of a bank check drawn on the Royal Bank of Scotland.

Just to be the Devil's Advocate [and as a porn lawyer I have really earned THAT title] his spelling of cheque is not wrong -- just different than US English. The Brits think we spell it wrong in America :-) plus they think we say "aluminum" wrong [they say al - you - min -ee -um when we say ah- loom- in- um ]
Not wrong, just different.
