I think I'll check into this as well and let you know, via AIM, if I find anything. I did paten and copyright research for quite some time.

The only real issue I see is finding original copies for use. If it's PD and someone else puts it out with even as much as one frame removed or added, it's their work. Also with the Bono act, some things are a little harder to identify as completely PD at the moment.
