Friendster was popular for a while, then everyone went to Tribe. I couldn't be bothered with either for the same reasons mentioned here.
When Myspace got popular I decided to tackle it to see how much I could exploit it. I copy-and-paste each of my regular blog items to Myspace, I add as many Friends as possible, utilize the bulletins, etc.
And guess what? I haven't gotten ANY recognizable click thru's.
I've decided it's not a marketing tool, it's merely a webpage creation tool for people with no html skills. Period.
