i wouldn't do it. i'd do a blog instead. that way, you are in control of when new stuff is announced. you could do 2 a week - one to announce the latest update and tell about it and another to tell what's new with you or about a shoot your're going to do or whatever. if people talk to you, great! if not, you can still keep things going and it won't look empty and lonely.

i see a lot of boards in member areas, dean, where no one posts. you can see the owner did exactly what you're talking about for a while, then gave up and the only posts are announcing updates - or there are no new posts at all.

and you can always have a blog AND a board if you get enough involved members
