You do realize by 'gay' I mean a man who has sex with other men?

Thats true enough, i dont recall which show it was but a year or two back there was a panel about marketing gay sites and the question was asked 'what is a reality site' and, from memory i dont think ANYONE on that panel actually knew.

That was kind of worrying, knowing these were supposed to be people teaching others how to make money and they didnt even understand one of the most popular site concepts in the last 5 years

that's right Patti - we're learning but, seems like you can't teach this old any new tricks - speaking of which - got a couple of hotties in the lay down room right now that need a good fuckin'

I'm gonna pull out my "you know what" and my camcorder and, film it - and I don't care what you call it but, its pretty real to me and to future viewers...

    Well.. maybe this helps..

Although it doesn't touch on the issue of a "Reality Site"
When you mentioned the layout being required.. I got to thinking..

In the definition of reality porn listed above, it is said:

"staged scenes, usually shot in cinéma vérité fashion, set up and prelude sexual encounters."

So then perhaps a Reality Site requires that the scenes be set up via text, with the scene then watched.

A good example of this might be boyscasting.com (though I might be a little off on it)... it sets up the site itself with a little story.. then explains the encounter for each video... While the video itself is shot in a gonzo-ish style.

    Tony,

No one is disputing you Tony and Cam are real men making their own porn. And your site is definitely hot. But it lacks a continuous storyline that would put it in the "reality" niche. If you and Cam trolled the Internet every week looking for new guys to have bareback sex with, and the video showed you guys trolling the Net and talking to guys, and inviting them over. And if you did that every week, then you'd have a reality site.

Right now, you're just a hot bareback sex site.

well thanks Michael for having the balls to say something nice about us!

we actually ARE trolling the net for guys that we're putting up all the time - so, you should check back in sometime to see what we've been up to or, better yet, check out our regular posts - the posts both of us make twice a week on our travels and escapades including "real" photos of the people we meet and fuck - our blogs are very REAL

I guess I just don't get it - I bet that if I fucked the pope and put that on line then maybe, we'd be more real?

bye for now, got to get back to trolling the net! and excuse my french but, we've ALWAYS shot everything in cinema verite... and the very first thing we shot was banned from Naked Sword - they actually cut all of the barebacking out of the video - go figure... we moved on to AEBN after and have been happy ever since but that's a feed and off topic (sorry-not really)

    Bar Codes and DVD packaging....

we're releasing the first dvd in our new line Tony&Cam RAW and I'm not sure that I want to invest in a new bar code identity - we won't be distributing the new line through our distributor, The French Connection who's id is on all of our existing titles

We've mutually decided to go this on our own - so question is this...

We won't be selling mass quantities to Tower Records or Virgin anymore so do we really need a bar code?

Do small retailers really need to scan the id into their system?

We've asked several pop&pop shops and they don't seem to care

Is anyone else releasing dvd's without bar code and is that ok and successful with your distributors and retailers?

    Tony wants to know

    Yes, actually. LOL.

    Think he'd take it bare?

Anyway, "Reality" sites are based on context.

A legit straight man being convinced to have sex with another guy is "reality." But if all the producer did was cut right to the sex with no setup and no context to the fact, then the viewer doesn't know it's reality. They'll just think it's like any other scene. So they have to provide the context. They have to set it up with an aura of being more or less unplanned/unrehearsed/whatever.

Like the online hookup thing... If you set it up with "We just met this guy online. We're about to meet him for the first time..." then you've got the DNA for reality content.

reality porn doesn't mean it's real. fucking the pope still wouldn't be reality. reality porn is a style of porn that explains the scenario, shows the cameraman and the fucker talking about getting the new model, shows the fucker making the connection and talking to the model, then going to the location the action will happen, then setting up to do the action, then the action itself - and perhaps a short afterpiece.

    for example:

a guy and his camera man are walking up the street. they are talking about needing a new model and what kind of guy they want to find today. the guy says he's going to start things off by telling prospective models they need someone to pose for "art" pics. they approach a guy, tell him they want him to pose. he asks if it's nude. they say "sometimes". he says he doesn't know about that. they convince him to come back with them. they go to studio. they convince him (with lots of money or a promise that no one will ever see this video) to take him clothes off. then with more money or promises, they convince him to jack off or get sucked.

    another one:

3 guys are driving around in a van - the driver, the cameraman and the guy. they say that the last guy they shot was hot once he was willing to get going, then talk about how they want a college guy today. it is established that they are either near or at a college. they approach a flustered looking guy from the van, ask if he wants a ride. he says yes - his car broke down and he can't carry all this stuff all the way home, so thanks. he heaves his heavy backpack in the back of the van and gets in. the main guy is back there. they convince him to get his cock sucked. the cock is sucked and they drop him at home, kick him out of the van or whatever they do.

OK - that all makes sense to me - so, in short - we can use the stuff we got today?

I drop Cam off at our bank and I'm sitting in my jeep in downtown BH when this HOT guy walks in front of my jeep and gives a "woof" look so,

what do I do? pull out a contract and get him on camera signing the contract before I continue
    and
go ahead and start shooting the set up? (god forbid I have him go down on me in my jeep at Wilshire and Linden in downtown beverly hills at 12:07PM during a stock market crash!) - that's almost as sacriliguous as fucking the pope for Christ's sake!

    am I being too technical?

we always do "re-inactments" in that we interview a guy first - get him to sign the all important model release then, set up the time, place and date and do a "re-inactment" on film with the forms all signed, permits on hand (thank you city hall), insurance paid... etc

does anyone else do that or we too "business" oriented?

btw - does anyone know what's going on with that whole new ordinance in NYC requiring a million dollar insurance policy, permits and time limits on any videography and photography taken in public on city street?

It's mostly the presentation that matters most.

Sites like Twinks for Cash do all the legalese first, then they basically fake the "reality" portion of it where they pick the "random" guy up off the street.

But the more spontaneous you make it FEEL, the better. You'll notice how the camera (or the person behind it) often becomes a 3rd person in the room in some way (if not directly, then at least subliminally where they know they're being filmed). It's not like "regular" porn where they're ignored as if they're not there. Doing so feels too staged for "reality".

There are other twists and turns to try too. For example, you could "offer" guys money on camera if they'll go bare... I don't remember seeing any "Bareback for Cash" sites before, so that could be a new niche? Heh.

When I think of a reality site, I think of a straight site that is mrbigdickshotchicks.com... on there they show picking up chicks at the carwash, on the street, just about anywhere, then going back to the studio and fucking them.
