I had a good time and I did some good business, which is what the show is all about. Thanks to my extremely tight schedule, I wasn't able to show up much and spent most of my time at work. I was glad to have been asked to speak and I'm glad I was able to meet with a few affiliates to get a couple new ones.

And hey.. I was able to be an asshole at the seminar on stage... that's gotta count for something.

Seminars will always suck until the organizers aren't stuffiing it with their cronies/supporters and getting an ironclad insistence that panelists cannot talk about their own products during the seminar, except perhaps for a brief mention at the beginning and end.

Likewise, an agenda/outline for each seminar, a moderator who has some idea of the areas of expertise of each speaker on the panel, and strict enforcement of time for each panelist would go a long way toward making the seminars a useful experience.

There are definitely ways of addressing the issue of panelists pimping their own wares... providing alternative ways/places for the panelists to talk specifically about their products/services, recruiting on basis of knowledge instead of who knows who, that sort of thing.

When someone actually cares, it will change. Not before then.

Actually, it is at Hollywood & Highland, not Vine.

Hollywood & Highland is the name of the entire renaissance redevelopment that begat the hotel and the new theater... and The Gap store where kids break dance for tourist dollars.

Hollywood and Vine sounds better because we all want to be "discovered" at Schwab's Drug store.

Except that the original Schwabs is now a Virgin Megastore and the only people who get "discovered" there are guys giving blowjobs in the men's room.

The Schwabs at Hollywood and Vine was supposed to be a replica of the original but instead it turned out to be some frou frou diner with six overpriced menu items and a staff who was too busy memorizing scripts for their next audition to bring you your food. So it closed shortly after it opened. Now it's just a name on the building so people think it's the original Schwabs and the restaurant is now a sushi place.

Yes, the original Schwabs was on Sunset & Crescent Heights Blvd.
