I used to do non paying test shoots, but it was almost always before models knew I did anything with adult, I did free pictures, no nudity, and gave them a disk with all of the images on it, then if they worked out, I would approach them again if they wanted to do adult. This does a few thing:
1) You get to know the model, and vice versa, you get to see how they act and work, before having any added pressure of nudity.
2) While it was an extra step, it removes some of the flake ratio of models. A shoot involving nudity can add pressure to a first time meeting, by having them getting nude on a separate occasion, they almost always show up, and they are much more comfortable than a first meeting type of thing.
