I just found another Acacia story which was released two days after the xbiz one above. This time, its about Microsoft licensing technology from Acacia.

From this story:

Software giant Microsoft Corp. has licensed smartphone patent technology from both Access Co. and a unit of Acacia Research, the latest move to gain a competitive edge in the fast-growing phone sector.

...Meanwhile, Acacia, which came to prominence in 2002, when the company launched a series of patent claims against the online porn industry, has filed several patent claims against Apple, Research in Motion, Samsung, and other manufacturers of smartphones for functions including email synchronization and on-phone capabilities.
so it looks like Acacia will remain around for a while longer
