Pew Research released its annual report saying that social networking usage is up: 65% of online adult surfers internet users now say they use a social networking site like MySpace, Facebook or LinkedIn, up from 61% one year ago. And overall, the survey says that 50% of ALL adults use social networking sites.
The graph attached shows overall trends for social networking usage since they started tracking this back in 2005. The second attachment shows statistics broken down by various indicators. That one shows that women are heavier social networkers, as are young adults 18-29. It also shows there is no real statistical difference when looking at race and ethnicity, household income, education level, or whether the internet user lives in an urban, suburban, or rural environment.
