ya know ever since I have installed xpsp2 and norton I have been able to block every auto install. Plus I have been running the new MS anti-spyware utility which is surprisingly stable and good quality - click here to get it.
cheers,
Luke

sorry to hear you are going through thisdid you have spysweeper running? it's kept any programs from installing here since i got it...
I had spybot and adaware and mcaffe antivirus installed ... the antivirus thingy kept popping every 5 seconds and even though it was running it kept wanting to run again and again for each new infected file it found when I'd boot up. Got to where the system would try to boot, show me my desktop and then reboot, and it kept saying my second drive was invalid ... which had me in a total panic since that's where all my work files lived! There was a popup that kept happening that I finally got a clue that it was actually a trigger to reinstall the quarantined files, and not a normal "error" box ... sneaky little bastards.
Finally got the desktop popup malware to slow down by upgrading my firewall software and turning off nearly everything but systray in the msconfig ... long enough to access and move work files ... gawd it takes forever to move 40 plus gigs of shit to a new drive! I was careful to not take anything out of Windows or Programs ... so I'm busily fetching the newest downloads of the stuff I use all the time like winzip, mozilla's firefox, etc. to setup a new drive for the operating system and my programs. What a pain in the ass week this has been!
No clue what that Spysweeper is Patti ... and I'll definately look into the one you suggested too Luke, thanks!
lee turned me onto spysweeper (these are not affiliate links, just links within their site)

I hate sites that do that!
Good luck, if I can help let me know, you are awesome!
