MPEG-4 part 10/H.264 AVC/ with MP4 container aren't exactly finalized as of yet, but it's pretty close.

Interestingly I have a friend in Connecticut who played my Mp4 samples with no problem

WMV will not play at all in Quicktime I dont use a Mac and I dont have any experience with them I dont know if they offer a different player besides quicktime that will let them play .wmv
As Xstr8guy pointed out, Windows does have an mp player for the mac. It works nicely. The only problem I have is that there is no bar to manipulate to jump forward or back. It's not a big deal but all in all wmv's are a nice format to work with.

Have you ever tried the VLC player ? When all else fails, it's what I use for last resort video files.

I just tried a test on my mac. Firefox loaded a small video clip with no problem with quicktime. Both safari and IE 5 for mac could not read it. I guess it's gonna be a little while longer before it becomes a standard format.

We get constant complaints from our members with Macs. It seems that Windows Media for Mac is a sometimes solution that, I'm told, is buggy and unreliable. (Why does this not surprise me, given that it's a Microsoft product?)

Right now, we're only offering WMV but we are also experimenting with Flash Video (which Sorenson Squeeze encodes nicely) and may go back to Quicktime.
