Holly! You are just a doll!
Well it looks like Lee and I will be at all of the Gay Webmaster Parties, Darren's Luncheon and we will be at Freek Fest (one of my buddies gave me some banner space there so I need to work the room)
Those I know we're definitely going to be attending.
I'm looking forward to seeing you at Internext with or without a party going on around us
Hugs,
Gary-Alan

Hi all,
I tried following the instructions on http://www.avsprograms.com/forum/
for creating backdoor access to give to potential clients, and apparently the tutorial says that it circumvents the htaccess files. But it doesn't seem to work.
Can anyone steer me in another direction?
Thanks

I can't seem to find that thread on the forums you posted.
I'd like to read that one first before making any suggestions. If you can send the exact location, I'll gladly read it and get you some advice.
Regards,
Gary-Alan

Great ... thanks very much:

I didn't post the link the first time because some boards are really ... um ... anal ... about that sort of thing.
Thanks

Smart move, bud!
I'm one of the anal board owners who typically don't like it LMAO
I'll go read now. And if I don't know the answer I'll find someone who does ; )

You need to make sure you are allowing that backdoor page entrance into your site, so it depends on how your htaccess file is set up.
For AVS sites, if you include:
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^http://yourdomain.com.*$ [NC]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^http://www.yourdomain.com.*$ [NC]
in your htaccess then it is saying that referring clicks from within your domain are allowed.
For paysite that use an htpasswd file to verify userids, then this method will not work. Instead, just generate a temporary userid/password for your reviewers and monitor it closely, then after it is used and your site is reviewed DELETE it very quickly.
Like the article says, most reviewers are honest and will not leak your backdoor to the public but just be careful.
Cheers,
Luke

One other thing, htaccess files are TRICKY!!!! They change depending on the hosting services you are using.
You really should be asking your hosting company to help you on this and if they do not help you, you should change to a webhost that will.
Cheers,
Luke

Thanks for the advice and the lines of code. I already have an htaccess file as follows:
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^http(s)?://([a-z0-9-]+\.)*mydomain.com/ [NC]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^http(s)?://([a-z0-9-]+\.)*avscompany\.com/ [NC]
RewriteRule /* http://%{HTTP_HOST}/ [R,L]
Do I just paste the two lines of code that you provided after the last RewriteCond?
If I'm being a pain, just let me know.
Thanks for your help.
