You can join and split Quicktime directly within the quicktime-player. But you need the professional one, not the free one. It is a bit a tedious work and you cannot work very accurately (buttons are so small).

An other way is the http://www.movietoolbox.com/ - software. The movie splitter does not support .mov but there is a converter that does and the joiner supports .mov as well.
