I'm not even sure it's effective there. I think the real truth is they mail it to anyone who's ever advertised, so most of the people that receive it by mail are advertisers (and presumably webmasters) but if you read it, the editorial (all 3 pages of it) is aimed at consumers.
So you have a publication probably mostly read by webmasters, with content aimed at consumers, that is mostly distributed at/thrown away by, gay bars.
Is it any wonder why JUB magazine is beating the pants off of Cybersocket in effectiveness?
I do believe that might also be a waste of time. Doesn't seem that anyone reads it either, or, if they do, they sure don't respond to advertising. We've advertised with them heavily over the years and quite frankly never saw where we could justify the expense or even attribute one sale from it.

can anybody recommend national publications where it is worth to advertise for escorts gay and / or straight ???
So the Cybersocket monthly publication comes in the mail today. I started looking through it while I'm waiting on a friend to come over.
And if you look at the publication... They put an overlay on some of their advertisers ads!
For example GuysGoCrazy.com.
It has their logo on it. Then a description about their parties.
At the bottom right corner of the ad, it says:
cybersocket.com/link/bzjhq
So now, it looks like Cybersocket is getting advertisers, the advertisers are paying for their spots, then Cybersocket is dinging the webmaster / site twice.
Once: The paid ad
Twice: Affiliate linking.
I could be wrong. But it sure in hell looks like it.
It's not on all of the ads, but a lot of them.
Also, JJ spoke to Cybersocket about ending the advertising deal. Cybersocket said okay on their voicemail message they left at the office.
But then yet ran another month when they were told in writing to stop.
So our ads are still in the publication, and received a bill for it.
Geesh, sounds like they need to get their advertising right - the right way.
Well to be quite honest myself personally I can not see the harm in having an affiliate link for a paid for advertiser as long as the link go's straight to either their home page or a default tour page... As long as it's not a circle jerk, or a link to a white label, I cant really see the harm... Though I know others would see it differently.. thats just my opinion.
They are getting the "paid for" exposure after all that they.. well paid for.. unless in the contract it states otherwise then nobody can complain.
Personally I do not agree with CS marketing or general business tactics, but in this instance I cant see a problem.
The question on my own mind that still remains is "Why the fuck does 70% of the the business and surfers still support them if at least 65% does not trust them?" .... Kudus they succeeded in one area I have failed...
Maybe were to honest for our own good :specs:
Unless there was a written agreement and a significantly discounted price on the ad or something like that, I would be REALLY upset if a publication inserted their own link into MY paid ad and then tried to collect an affiliate commission on sales coming from the placement of the ad in the publication. It's totally double dipping... charging me for the ad, then again for the affiliate commission from sales resulting from the ad. Totally wrong in my book. But then again, it's very possible there's another deal here and Cybersocket is being paid only from affiliate sales revenues or something.
I am giving this a bump. Here is my reasoning.
We had a contract with Cybersocket. On any contract we sign, we will not sign it unless the text can be added that clearly states basically "We can back out at any time for any reason. If we pre-paid, we lose our money. If we are paid up to date on the date we want to cancel, we may do so."
Cybersocket accepted.
Thursday of last week they turned us over to their "off shore collection agency." Cybersocket claims we owe them $2,940.00 in back payments.
We had 3 text ads per month, 6 months left. That is $90.00 per month, an amount owed of $540.00.
After speaking with the collection agency, apparently we requested Cybersocket VERBALLY to run 1/6 page ads multiple times.
And apparently, we haven't paid them anything since September, 2008.
Well, the way everything has been set up with them is we mail in monthly payments. So why would they continue running the ads if things aren't being paid?
BEWARE!
When a letter was sent to them on our part terminating the agreement, it was in writing. And Morgan acknowledged the letter because he contacted our lawyers via phone and told them how stupid they are because they are and a big stink was created. :uhoh:
They're still at their games.
Sorry to hear your have a right fucking hard time with them derekt
My question still remain though: why does the vast majority of peeps keep on supporting them? and attending their events etc (I hear the events are some of the best, wouldn't know personally, never been)
Just why.. it's pretty globally known about suspect practices, hell even before I got into this world of adult stuff even I back then had read of CS antics on surfers forums even.
I simply fail to understand sorry....
Example : I got offered a fucking good business proposition not long ago with a company (not CS), I did a bit digging and the general feeling was 50/50 some complained about none payments and others said they had no problems at all... Normally you find a few bitching but such a high number in this case, I declined the offer...
See where I'm coming from?
Up until the last year or so, I don't think the truth about Cybersocket was as widely known or understood, and the whole "gay mafia" thing concerned a lot of people. But by now most have realized that whatever clout they once had is no longer.
And, of course, there are plenty of people who never read the boards or talk to people and so don't know the real deal.
CS is really good about making you feel good. They make you feel so good like your the King of England. I've dealt primarily with Michelle. She was always good to me. She's an awesome gal.
But when I personally was dealing with Morgan, he made me feel so good about the product we have, he made me feel like it's the best thing to sugar, he got chummy with me, I thought he was a cool dude. But after a while, I caught onto his games.
I think that's what they do to their advertisers. They find out you have an interest in their advertising and they put you on a throne.
We just had 3 text ads. And one thing Morgan always said to me was, "Today you may only have 3 texts, but those 3 text ads are going to build you a stream to where tomorrow you'll be at a full page and that's where we like to get our clients at."
So that's why a lot of advertisers PROBABLY stick with them. They are afraid of breaking a "friendship." And they think CS is important to the industry. But then again, I seen Seancody.com having full page ads with them. I see SeanCody.com ads ALL OVER. So he probably doesn't have the ability to track what traffic is coming from where. Where as we did. If it hadn't been for the holiday e-newsletters, we wouldn't have known and developed an investigation into the matter.
