No argument here. Bryan, by many accounts (including Chad, who spoke his piece some months ago) was a total piece of shit and got what he deserved.

I never met the man, so I don't know, and I definitely believe in karma... but I guess what I was saying that having one's throat slit by a couple of two-bit hookers over competition and desire to work with a model... well, I wouldn't wish a violent death like that on anyone.

The really chilling part for me was reading Cuadra's quote that he, in effect, enjoyed watching Bryan die and felt good about "getting revenge" (though for what is unclear.)

That's the mark of a *really* twisted individual.

Yeah it's an awful and undignified way to go. I dunno if he suffered or not, if he was drugged, or what the deal was but it was harsh to say the least.

The thing that sucks is Cuadra had a bangin cock, and body, a real hottie. He didn't need to kill anyone to make it big, he just needed a little time and the right connections.

I think there's more to the story. Perhaps Kocis did Cuadra in when he was underage, and screwed him over? Hard to tell but I think it's safe to say there's a lot we don't know yet.

I have read the news stories and they keep mentioning the "$500,000 house" or the "$571,000 house" and then stating that Cuadra lived an extravagant life. I also saw pictures of the house -- it did not look extravagant. I would say more like a nice middle class house. Is $571,000 extravagant for that part of Virginia? In many parts of California that amount of money would only buy a 3 bedroom fixer-upper or a small condo. It wouldn't even buy a 2 bedroom condo in the new building going up across from the Tempe hotel where the Phoenix Forum is held.
Is it me or are the parts of the story about the "extravagant lifestyle" just media drama??

I was having the same conversation with AJ this afternoon. $571,000 almost anywhere in California would get you, at the very most, a 2000 sqft 3 br/1ba house. I just checked, and in Virginia Beach, you can't find much of anything under 200K, and what you get for $200K is an older 2 or 3 bedroom townhouse with one bath, while 300K will get you a small 3 bedroom/1 bath.

I think this mindset is coming from the Wilkes-Barre PA area, where $200K will get you a nice, large house with a little bit of land.

BTW, in the SF bay area, $570,000 will get you basically a toolshed, or a lovely handyman's special with no roof in east Oakland, in the heart of crack town. One of the reasons that AJ and I decided to move to the Sacramento area, where, on average, prices are 30 to 50% less than the bay area.

I just found a copy of the criminal complaint online. Some very interesting stuff, and some VERY impressive police work.

Basically, Harlow and Joe are fucked.

The police did an incredible, detailed, meticulous job tracing emails sent to Bryan and associating them with IP addresses associated with Harlow's home and Sprint PCS wireless modem accounts, verified the IP address in the router during the search of Harlow's house. The search of Harlow's home found two camcorders - with serial numbers filed off - matching ones that Bryan had owned, that turned up missing in his house after the fire... AND a posting to a message board by Harlow, made from his computer's IP address, saying he "just got this camera (same model as was stolen from Bryan's house and found at Harlow's house) and doesn't have the manual" and asking how to use it, 2 days after the murder.

Not to mention documentation of a disposable cell phone purchased 2 days before the murder and used only to call Bryan, which was activated from a cell tower a couple hundred yards from Harlow's house, and also used a few hundred feet from Bryan's house to call Bryan... a constant stream of emails from Harlow's laptop, including ones to Bryan, *except* during the 2 hours when the murder took place when there were no emails; emails to and from Harlow to Bryan confirming the meeting time and details; emails from both Harlow and Joe to others saying they would be "out of town" for the 2 days before and after the murder, and all the other stuff (the rental car, purchase of the knife, the hotel records.)

How anyone can possibly claim (as one wingnut is saying) that this is a "frame job" with planted evidence is completely beyond me.

The other interesting thing the report makes mention of is the interception of the conversation at the nude beach. Apparently it was done at the Torrey Pines glider port, which is at the top of the cliffs several hundred feet above Black's Beach. About 6 agencies, including the DEA, were involved in the surveillance. I'm guessing they used a parabolic or other distance-sensitive microphone, though one theory is a mike hidden in Brent's sunglasses.

Apparently Harlow and Joe are recorded saying they took all of Bryan's master DV tapes, three of his computers, and paperwork and releases from Bryan's house and destroyed everything (though supposedly there are backups off site.)

And... Harlow is reported to have sent emails to Grant through Myspace saying "When do we start filming, we had an agreement" and "you need to make some kind of contact with us before we tell them you hired us" and "we all know what you said to us at the AVN in Vegas, and we have it on tape, don't fuck with us"

Now... that last part could easily be blowing smoke and/or threatening to get their way... but at the very least, the whole thing really stinks.

So, according to the police affidavit, at least, we have Harlow in premeditation, plotting, planning, taking pains to cover things up (though with gross ineptitude) and then saying incriminating things after the fact. Not only is the guy evil beyond belief, but a complete dumbass to boot.

And to think that he was arrogant enough to think that the only real competition to his dinky company was Cobra.... or that his company even mattered...

The one other part which was, to me, pretty disgusting was that apparently it was Bryan's expectation that this model he was meeting (Harlow), who was supposedly coming for an interview to be a Cobra model, would be staying over and having sex with him that night. Oh, and supposedly he never asked Harlow for his ID, though he did have him sign a release. I guess that just goes to further reinforce what people had been saying about Bryan all along.

So... I guess the jury is still out on whether anyone else knew or hired them, but the whole thing is really sad, and, if what Harlow's emails said are true, definitely doesn't make Brent look good.

How in the hell would anyone know if he asked for his ID or not? The only people present at that particular exchange was the murderer and the victim, and I really doubt that Harlow told police that when he was at the house to kill him, he was never asked for ID.

Some of you should remember that Bryan Cocis did have friends that frequent these boards, and despite your personal feelings towards things that he may have done in his past, out of respect, it would be nice to keep the derrogatory comments about this individual to yourself. No matter how much you may have hated him or enjoyed seeing the news of his death, it's still a hard feeling for the people who called him their friend. So try to be atleast a little bit sensitive to your fellow webmasters or producers who have lost a friend out of this.

I expect to be flamed over this and to be honest, no longer care. The way that some of you joke around about his death and talk of how he deserves it is sickening. Just try to have some more respect for the victim and for his friends...

Yeah, you're right... we should all take the word of a murderer doing anything in his power to recruit a contracted model... I'm sure bryan would have gotten to asking for the ID if it wasn't for the blood pouring out of his throat...

No matter what, most of you are going to see Bryan as some sex-crazed child raper who was a worthless piece of shit and had no right to live any longer than he did. You wanted to know how Chip could post that Bryan didn't ask for ID. I told you where the source was -- and it was Harlow under surveillance when he did not know he was being listened to. In the legal world, such a statement does have a lot of credibility.

Even the most horrible people have friends but just having friends does not make one a better person, nor does being dead. Just being dead does not absolve Kocis of all the terrible things he did.

I will not make unfounded claims about him, but I certainly will not restrict my voice just because he happened to have a few people in the world that actually liked him.

The "comments" I made were lifted directly from the police affidavit and, presumably, would be the most accurate source of information available at this point. And you'll note that I said "supposedly" he never asked for ID; even though stated as a direct quote in the report, I said it was an allegation, not a fact.

I think most will agree the man was no angel, but as I said earlier in this thread, no matter what Bryan did, it's my opinion that no one deserves to experience dying the way he died, or having his body mutilated and burned after his death.
