The stories of John's sexuality in this town (Hollywood) are quite legendary by now. One story I heard was that he liked to take young pretty things up in his personal plane for trysts. Interesting that this pic is taken an an airport... Of course, maybe John's growing up, and this guy reflects that.

It's also obvious to anyone with a brain that Kelly Preston, John's beard -- um, wife -- is not the most feminine woman in the world, and has played NUMEROUS gay roles in her career. Like 5 or 6 of them. Coincidental that she keeps accepting -- or perhaps going after -- these types of roles? You decide.

I don't think it's possible to say what kind of kiss this is. Lovers kiss very quickly on the lips as well. That pic could mean anything. But the whole European thing doesn't jive with me: John's American. And European men kiss on the cheek, not on the lips, right?

Anyway, I think it's funny to hear someone say "Who cares if John Travolta is gay?" Everyone cares. Celebrities in that league -- the A-listers league -- coming out would have a pretty big impact on how the world at large views gay people based on their "personas." If Tom Cruise were to come out, just think about the public impact that would have. Rock Hudson coming out did a lot to shatter stereotypes in the '80s. Ditto for Greg Louganis. I think that by and large the world has realized that gay people come in all shapes, sizes, colors, and varieties of personality (queeny vs. masculine, etc.), but if major A-list celebrities were to come out, it would have a profound impact on not only the way the maintream viewed us, but also how some of us view ourselves.

Not that I need a celebrity to validate my sexuality. But it's certainly nice to have them on our side and in the public eye.

Travolta's in the "A-listers" league... for real? I haven't seen one of his movies in the past 10 years. I just assumed that no one else has either.

    You're right

    They aren't kissing

They are just face to face, arm and arm, puckering their lips as if they were kissing.

    You're right

We all know photographers never miss the perfect shot where everything comes together - they must not have been kissing at all. There's absolutely no proof here. They just look like two perfectly normal straight buddies holding eachother like normal straight guys do. :disguise:

In the smaller one Travolta has both feet on the step. Assume this is where a friendly hug took place. Then in the large photo we see him backing down the steps, letting go of the rail and pulling away from his friend as a momentarily awkward position is caught on film.

And I doubt they were in a lip lock just before this either. I don't think the photographer would have missed such a photo opportunity.

A list actors coming out only shows the general public that Gay men are greedy and sneaky by pretending to be straight and lying to the world, too ashamed to be themselves because of a severe lack of integrity. Tom Cruise coming out would just be a big "he's really gone off the deep end now!" he he

The Gay people who have a big impact are the Rosie O'donnel's , K D Langs, Ellens, etc. etc. etc. People who, before A listing, show their true colors and still go for it. Also people with a big impact are A list straight stars supporting the Gay community. That's just my take on it :bunny:

I don't think it has anything to do with greed.

How many webmasters on this very board just posted that they have not told their families that they are in porn? Does that make them sneaky too? Does that mean they are ashamed of what they do or who they are? What's the difference between a webmaster who works in porn but doesn't want to tell his or her parents that he or she traffics in sex and the gay actor who doesn't tell the entire world he or she is gay?

The sad fact of the matter is that in this country, openly gay people DON'T make it to the A-list category. And what if your dream was always to be a movie star? Or even just to have the opportunity to play romantic leads? What if all it really boils down to is the fact that a gay person wants to have the same opportunities to play certain types of roles -- or to have their music heard by the widest possible audience -- as everybody else?

Who's really at fault here? The person who just wants to have a career, or the country we live in for forcing them to keep quiet about their sexuality?

I really think the gay community really needs to get over this practice of attacking stars who stay in the closet. Not everybody needs to be a role model. Some people just want to be actors or musicians and be done with it and not have to deal with making statements for an entire group of people. Don't you think? We thrust all this reponsibility and judgment upon them, when really, we should just shut up and let them live their lives and not condemn them for being "greedy" or "ashamed" or having no integrity. I bet most of them have LOTS of integrity.

That's just MY take on it.

Oh you're changing topic. Yeah if someone wants to be an actor and lie about who they really are to the world that is up to them. Hell I'd probably lie to the world for hundreds of millions of dollars too - that is what A-listers make these days over a carreer, and we are talking about A-listers.

Lots of people lie, cheat, steal etc. to get to the top. Actors are no different but you said "Anyway, I think it's funny to hear someone say "Who cares if John Travolta is gay?" Everyone cares. Celebrities in that league -- the A-listers league -- coming out would have a pretty big impact on how the world at large views gay people based on their "personas."

See YOU are the one who puts A-list actors coming out on a pedastal as making "a pretty big impact on how the world at large views gay people". I disagree. I'm not attacking them or their decission, but I don't feel their decision is a noble one, as I don't feel coming out after you've reached the top is noble either. Usually it's done out of desperation and to protect losses, or they've simply reached the top and have nothing to lose now.

Let's face it. If you're looking for people with strong moral character and conviction, the acting/entertainment community isn't the first place you'd look.

People will do what they do and when society is ready for change it happens.

People will come out when they are good and ready. For some, they might not feel ready until they are established in the industry. For some, it may be because of parents or family. If you are not famous and you move away from your parents and come out to everybody around you, your folks may never find out and if they are the only people you don't want to tell then you have that right. If you are a celebrity and you come out in a magazine or tv interview, everybody knows and your parents will find out.

Being an actor or a musician is a job. One of the things that come with the territory is a lack of privacy. Do you think that just because someone is famous they don't deserve privacy anymore? They have to do whatever they can to keep what little privacy they have.

I'm thrilled when a big name star comes out or is just openly gay, but at the same time I respect anyone's decision to do what they feel they need to do. I don't think it's right to out someone or to insist they come out and be angry that they don't. It's up to every individual to make that assesment themselves.

And in regards to the fact that A-list stars' carreers are in jeparody if they come out, the sad fact is that this may be true. Squirt, would you put all of your hard work, effort and money on the line for a principal? That's what you're asking these people to do. Let's say you were asked to make a statement to the press about an issue that could take away everything you've worked for. Even if you truely believed in this statement and felt the world should know, would you be willilng to risk it all? If every gay actor in Hollywood, A-list or otherwise, would come out at once, it would have a huge impact on our society and culture. It may even pave the way for equality for all actors regardless of sexuality, but the ones on the front lines who start the ball rolling could easily be written off by the Hollywood machine. Sure it would be great to know that your actions today will affect people 20 years from now in a very positive way, but by doing it you may never work again. Now, there's something to think about.
