    The Bottom Line...

I guess the bottom line is this...

I am GLAD those members are gone. You miss the point entirely. This time of year, there are political ads and signs everywhere. In fact, there is even one in front of the McDonalds I drive by everyday.

I am glad I know where those people's policitcal viewpoints are. For the same reason I don't shop at Wal-Mart, eat at McDonalds, or order pizza from Dominoes. I WANT to know where my money is going, and I think my members deserve the same respect.

By showing them my political values, I allow them to opt-out of supporting the causes I believe in. They can go find the gay porn site run by some self-hating gayman that gives his money to the Repubicans...because my money goes left.

You say that it lacks customer service and respect, but I would argue exactly the opposite with the above.

Regarding the "Think like me or else"...well, I can damn whoevers viewpoint I want...and I think the Republican party has earned it.

Anyone who has a stake in porn has a stake in this (and all) elections. We can not continue to be silent when there is so much at stake.

Regarding the torture...no, thats not what I am talking about. I am talking about the torture of US and Canadian CITIZENS by the US Government in secret military prisions in Germany.

I am sure you have heard this before, opinions are like assholes, we all have them. It's not the end of the world if someone or some company has a different view then you do.

Maybe you should be a politician and start a political website stating your views? You may be on to something.

The torture thing, I would have never guessed that you were talking about US citizens and Canadians in German prisons, never heard of that one. Glad I put that disclosure on the bottom of it.
    Thanks,
    Jacob

    1. Regarding torture of US and Canadians, here is just one of MANY articles.

    2. Regarding my being a politician...no thanks. I just want to be vocal and fight for our rights.

    3. Regarding it's not the end of the world if someone or some company has a different opinion than you...I suppose the Jews might have something to say about that and Hitler.

I know I don't order Dominoes because of their stand on Gay Rights, Abortion, etc. I don't eat at McDonalds because of how they destroy rainforests, etc.

Granted, Being gay should not be the ONLY thing that identifies us as to who we are...but it should have SOME consideration in that. Why would you spend money somewhere that you know is only going to go and give it to someone to pass laws to take away your rights? Think about it!

There's really nothing different about this than going to a Dixie Chicks, Madonna or U2 concert and hearing them talk about how they support so-and-so and how they hate Bush.

We all know what happened with the Dixie Chicks over that. And God bless them! Long live the Dixies for having the COURAGE to deliver TRUE patriotism: Sticking your own neck and your own career out on the line because it's more important to you to state your beliefs than it is to be rich. THAT's what America is all about to me.

That said, I actually think it's more important to encourage people to VOTE instead of telling them HOW they should vote.

Some of the other folks here do have a point. Might be best just to be more general when it comes to politics instead of pushing an agenda down their throat. You have to let people think for themselves.

You do realize by 'gay' I mean a man who has sex with other men?

Yet the AVN article in question did come off as telling people to vote Democratic, which i would assume is where the problems arose.

Does anyone find it ironic that people who would pay for a membership to a porn site would be in support of the very party that is trying like hell to take that porn site away?

Yeah, but we're a publication covering the industry, not a porn site. It's all about context. AVN is expected to include op-ed pieces. That's what we're supposed to do. Our readers turn to us to hear what we have to say on any given issue.

If we're talking about porn sites, however, surfers are going there to get off, and--while I think it's awesome for any site to encourage its members to get off their butts and vote--it's probably in the site owner's best interest not to tell them HOW to vote.

    EXACTLY!!!

This is the one thing that, in a way, makes it OK for a site owner to say, "Hey, you really should vote Democratic if you want to keep on looking at this site." Still, it's a touchy issue for a lot of people. That's why it's probably best to stick to just encouraging members to vote in general.

Well... I'd frankly be quite scared if the general public was voting based on how it affected their ability to view porn sites.

Checking out a porn site should be pretty low on someone's priority scale when it comes to who they vote for and why.

Besides, there are countless other great reasons people should vote against Republicans

LOL! Good point. But the bigger picture really is "freedom of speech," which covers adult content. And protecting the first amendment should be crucial to any American. Right?

i guess i'm missing something in this whole thread.

Who wants to mix politics and porn together anyway? All you've done is cut your income? Where's the sense in that? If politics is your bag then make a donation, volunteer for a party. But don't mix it with business. That's just stupid.

The surfer is on a porn site for one reason and one reason only.

And it ain't to talk about politics.

If you wanna talk about politics start a blog. hell that's what everyone else does!

porn should be in the bedroom, where it's meant to be

If anyone owns any ancient porn (back when VCRs had just become popular and porn had switched from 8mm loops and theater presentations to videos), you will find that a lot of the porn produced in that era had a 30 or 60 second plea to contact you Congressional representative and speak up for your right to view pornography in your home. There was an American flag in the background waving.

These, of course, were produced during the era when the "crackdown" was going on.

The message was a little different, because it didn't speak of voting or aiming Republican or Democrat, but went directly to First Amendment issues, but it was definitely political.

Did it alienate some people? Probably. Did it maybe make a few people think? Probably. But the problem is (and even more so then), very few people want to stand up and say they support porn... and I think a lot of the people that *view* porn feel guilty about it and that may be why Tropixxx got such a strong reaction.

I also admire the act of taking a stand. The only qualification I would offer is that in doing so, one must be willing to accept that it probably will alienate some people and/or make them uncomfortable. Going back for one second to the bareback issue, we've decided not to produce bareback and that's a decision that we know costs us tens of thousands of dollars because of the added popularity of bareback. But some things are more important than money, and I admire people who don't want the money of people who are voting for individuals who want to restrict our rights.
