How do you overcome the bordom?

Dont get me wrong, this is the best job to do. I feel like every sale ive earned and i love the porn biz, but, a large part (and probably the most important bit) is basicly data entry (link list submission and so on).

    It gets, well, dull.

Do you break up your day or take lots of breaks? Maybe im the only one who gets tired of filling out forms?

Stick on the radio! help me a lot, not that i get bored much, and that might be why!

Another definate option for you would be to split your tasks up.

For instance if you do free sites.

Instead of building 3, then submitting 3, rotate it

    build 1, submit it
    build another, submit it.

    Just a thought.

well we start new projects off.... once we get bored with a project we kind of let it fade away slowly. we try to create new types of sites (not just the crappy "splash/tour/memberarea" stuff) and we experiment with other stuff that is NOT adult... adult pays our bills... but other stuff is the fun stuff

No offense my friend, but in the "real" world that is one good way of failing.
When you build something, work at it, and build it, that is how you reach something great.

When you get bored and move on, you are always leaving possible great projects to "fade away" and starting something else "small" only to build it up untill you get bored to "fade away" again is just leaving you at the bottom of the barrel forever.

Ofcorse there are always exceptions to this, but generally its a proven rule.
If TOPBUCKS walked away because they got board, or ITENSECASH, CONDOMCASH, GAYBUCKS or any of these truely sucessful companies, what would they have? Another small, low profit company. THEY didnt walk away from boredom, they DIDNT give up, they WORKED and built something great, and now, they have the bank account to prove it.

If you only message to people who work online is "WHEN YOU GET BORED MOVE ON" then all i could personally offer you is a slap in the face to try knock some reality back into you.

Just my 2cents, althought im pretty sure a lot here will agree with me.

As said before, no offense intended.

You do realize by 'gay' I mean a man who has sex with other men?

Thats exactly what i do too, apart from the 'let it fade' aspect.

At any given time i have about 5 or 6 'projects' on the go, this lets me switch between them when i get bored with doing one of them for long periods of time.

Right now i have 3 new paysites that i have been working on for the past 2 months on and off, along with some new product thats going to be launching shortly, in addition to resizing content, encoding movies etc.

I actually find im much more productive being able to jump from one thing to the next as and when i get bored but, you need to have good organizational skills to pull this type of work pattern off i think.

Ive never been able to concentrate on doing 1 thing longer than about 7-10 days so being able to skip from project to project during a month means that they all get finished and that i never really get 'bored' from doing the same thing over and over again

It also helps to have something to do that isnt 'work' related, im finding myself more and more sitting out in the garden lately, pottering around with stuff just to break up the work day, plus it gets me some excerise because sitting at the desk 12 hours or more a day and not getting up and walking around isnt very healthy

    Regards,

    Lee

I bought a memberhsip to a Golds Gym. Besides the obvious health benifits, I have figured out what time the hottest boy in the world works out there, and what machines he is on. I simply pick a stairmaster that gives me a good view...then start walking until I have a heart attack and have to stop.

Working out seems to be a great way to break the day, clear the mind, and as a bonus, i have lost about 10 pounds since I started my voyuer breaks.

I have so many things to do at work that if I start to burn out on one, I just leave it and move on to something else then come back to it later.

I have the organizational skills of a fly Up until recently i didnt even know who the checks i was getting were from . Tax = nightmare to me.

If i stop to take a break i dont start up again for hours.

MTV is allways on in the background though. That helps. Proper TV slows me down.

Please please, he's a Het Okie! I'm really very happy how he's adjusted to the gay market .. let's not push it!

I love when I see him hug one of the guys and it is sincere.

A lot of the work we as webmasters/affiliates/sponsors have is boring, repetitive stuff, and I think a lot of the advice given is good.

AJ and I are always working on multiple projects, but I agree with Lee that focus and organization are key. AJ is better in this department than I am, so I keep a list of both long term 6+ month) and short term (1 week - 1 month) projects, and the stuff that needs to be done that day is usually a post-it on my monitor.

I switch in between things quite a bit, and I'm also pretty good at having multiple things going at once... one machine might be rendering video while another encodes, while my main machine might be rotating stills in one window, watermarking stills in another window, and I might have GWW or ICQ open in another.

I also think frequent, short breaks can be good *if* you have the discipline to go right back to work. I tend to do pretty long sessions at the computer, but I'll break them up to go run errands, call AJ and discuss the projects for the next week, that sort of thing.

It's a flow that's worked for me since before I started in this industry. When I worked as a management consultant, people were often confused by my chaotic-looking work style, but happy with the speed with which I could get things done.
