Actually, it isnt under construction, it was a concept i had and, like most other concepts, before i go in to full production i do my homework first, making sure processing would be available for it.

Thats actually the reason i started this thread, to find out just how webmasters would react to such a thing, even if it would be in their best interests, which is why i mentioned above i have no immediate plans to launch such a site whilst there is still so much negativity towards trying to profit from the same technology that is slowly going to put us all out of business.

    uh ...
Call me crazy but I think people do talk to their friends or friends tell them about sites to get free this and that they know of. They don't need to end up on Lee's imaginary site to know where to get free porn. Saying there's a 'secret' way to get free whatever, online, is ridiculous.

Even my bf's aunt who just 6 months ago started using the internets was able to find free music all on her own.

i'm the first to bitch about free porn but come on, let's keep it realistic and above the sand.

He who wants to be a freeloading troll will be and will find ways to get their free on whether Lee has this site or not. Lee wouldn't be giving anyone any secrets because there are none.

His idea can't be more of a threat than what's already out there, or more than say a $70 gay dvd with 8-inch dicks on the front cover that are actually more like 6.5-inches when you watch the video.

Or dvd rentals, or libraries which stock lots of dvds and books and give them away for free.

re xtube - I can't be the only one who goes there to avoid produced porn

As I see it, there are basically 2 types of porn surfers... those that pay and those that don't.

'Those that pay' are the surfers who don't have the time to search endlessly on P2P networks to find the porn they want or they are afraid of viruses, trojans, etc. Or they simply are mature, honest adults that don't have the inclination to steal anything. They may check out Xtube but they know they aren't getting the real deal with those grainy, short clips.

I've had friends give me links to sites where I can download Hollywood's latest releases. Out of curiousity, I've clicked around... most of the links are dead or the downloads are painfully slow. I'd just rather run to Best Buy and pay $19.95 for a legal copy of 'Borat'. I know what I'm getting is the real thing and I have a clear conscience. I gladly pay for goods and services if I get value for my dollar.

'Those that don't pay' are typically young and poor, techy nerds with too much time on their hands, or simply feel entitled to get EVERYTHING for free. Fuck them and I hope they all suffer huge fines someday. The death penalty isn't out of the question for me for those assholes, . I truly don't see any reason why anyone should ever market to those types of surfers. Maybe a smaller website with original content (such as UKNM) can 'fly under the wire' for a while on the P2P networks. I'm certainly not going to willfully expose our content to that 'wild west' mentality. And if I did, I highly doubt that UKNM would experience postive results in the long run.

I also want to draw a distinction between 'Tube' sites and P2P. Lee keeps trying to lump them together besides their obvious differences. Only the most horny teen is going to get off on the short, tiny, grainy crap on a Tube site. Tube sites are an excellent place to market your brand. But P2P is a whole different ballgame. Web2.0 be damned. Content producers need to continue to trying to stop something that will kill them in the near future. Just because something is 'new and exciting', 'cutting edge' and 'embraced by millions' doesn't make it right.

you pigeonhole surfers to an extreme
what's to say that those who don't pay are not doing it because they can't or won't pay but because of DRM or because they can't get that one scene they like from so and so porn video?

the tube sites are a lot about instant gratification
Obviously those who visit them aren't looking for hi-res videos or those sites wouldn't have much traffic. Looking at their Alexa stats the tubes sites sure have a lot of people looking for short, tiny grainy crap and loving it.

From observing, and talking to people and reading people go to xtube are not looking for the opposite of short, tiny grainy crap

Besides, there aren't many douches left to buy $70 dvds and $40/month memberships. Why porn dvds cost more than a season of Battlestar Galactica is beyond me.

bittorrent is good for instant gratification but if one isn't looking for anything specific chances are it will be trickling slow or not at all since a lot of people download the file and stop seeding. And it won't go away as CBS and others are giving it even more legitimacy by offering downloads/streaming of their shows.

Some even make the argument if anyone is searching for free they weren't going to pay in the first place

Xstr8guy is correct...Titan would sue your ass off in a second if you were selling memberships to a site that directed users to our stolen content. Love you Lee, but I would still have to sue you! ;-)

If fact we have personally shut down several sites that were doing the same concept, but for free. Because of this we are now the proud owners of XXXtorrents.com and XXXtorrents.net. If anyone is interested in purchasing those domains just let me know. They are available as a pair for $100,000

Knowingly setting up a paid membership website that provides the arena to traffic in stolen content places liability on you for contributory infringment.

    Keith,

Even if it was just a 3rd party site providing links to places like XXXtorrents?

Not a site that actually listed the torrents themselves?

Because if so, then you might want to get your lawsuit against Google ready...

Actually Lee Perfect 10 is already engaged in the lawsuit against Google for that exact same issue. I'll let them fight it out first and save our legal resource where they can be used most effectively. ;-)

Perfect 10 just recently lost their case with Google.

Lee, you asked for suggestions to monetize filesharing. Here are two:

-Make every video clip you create an "infomercial" for your products. Whether it's clearly a promotional clip or "content" itself, fill it full of commercials for your other sites. If someone steals it and loads to filesharing, they're actually doing promotional work for you.

-Build your own filesharing site that only allows approved material. If you're claiming that you are going to be "honest" and only promote content that's acceptable to share (good luck on that!), then that would be the only way to assure your friends in the industry that you're not stealing from them.

Otherwise, in what you're proposing, you may not be Tony Soprano yourself, but you're selling the merchandise that Tony Soprano "found" after it fell off the truck, along with a few other items to make you look legit. If the legit items sold well enough by themselves, why would you need to buy questionable merchandise from Mr. Soprano?

What you are proposing, Lee, is unethical. You are devising a way to make money from stolen content. You can frame it however you like, that is what it is. Aggregate sites, directories, search engines and personal porn blogs are all contributing to the growing problem of mass piracy of adult content.

Making it easier for surfers to find stolen content may not be illegal, but it is wrong.

Perhaps you are playing devil's advocate. I hope so.

    :-)

Although I have never really posted (although I read them regularly), I had to make a post for this one -- only because we are now in beta with a product that is similar; but executed properly (in my opinion) and with the intent of serving as a great marketing tool for content providers.

Just released for beta on Saturday is chadster.com

It is an aggregate of websites that caters to providing gay adult content in a web based community platform.

There is no fee to the consumer to access the network of sites and their respective galleries (which we are customizing to provide a consistent look and feel to the site)

Our site is a CONTROLLED environment in which content that is not authorized either through an affiliate relationship or a special agreement with the content provider will never be used.

The only reason that a website should resell content or access to content that they do not own is if the content provider or owner of the content has authorized through a licensing arrangement (whatever the terms may be) for that content to be resold.

That being said, our site will have a paid members area, BUT never for access to non-licensed content, and certainly not stolen or pirated content.

I welcome any and all of you to visit the site and give me your feedback as to what questions or issues you may have with what we are doing.

It is and always has been our sincere attempt when designing and developing this concept over the last two years to ensure that our site would cater to content providers as a powerful marketing too, and to consumers as a daily destination for gay adult entertainment.

    I hope you all agree.

    Sincerely,

    Chad(ster)

I haven't read this whole thread (first two pages, yes). So I maybe repeating what someone said.

back in the day, there was a plugin that you could lease for $99 a month a put in your members area. For all practical purposes it was a "search the usenet" plugin.

    Now,

There is an extension that you can put in firefox that does what you want to do - type in keywords and it searches all those places.

Here is one thing that I don't like about your idea. Forget copyright for a second. Let's look at CP. Do you have a way of filtering out links to CP? Those places are loaded with it.

I have an idea for a torrent site that is much different than yours and is perfectly legal.

This sort of reminds me of the fight for legal medical marijuana. The medical uses have been seen to be beneficial enough to start the medical marijuana practice. Now, if marijuana did not have the recreational benefits that it has, do you really think so many people would be advocates for it? I'm sure there is a good percentage of people who fight for the rights of medical marijuana simply because they want a legal excuse to use it recreationally. Will they admit it? No. They will hide behind the justification of helping those with legitimate medical needs, even though they may have never lifted a finger in the past to help someone else in any other capacity. I'm quite sure if they were able to process pot for it's medical benefits only and sell it legally without the recreational benefits, it would lose many of the advocates it now has. What, I can't get high off it anymore? Why bother fighting for it then?

Lee, you can say you are focusing your site to benefit from the legit content that is on P2P networks and such, but you know that the stolen content is there and will greatly increase the value of your site. So by saying you're focus is on the legit content does not change the fact that you will still be profiting from the illegal content, regardless of your spoken intention.
