Well - I dont know, our older titles still sell OK, especially if we dust them off and do a feature on them now and again.

On my first site, we had a particular trick that worked VERY well. We always had the same amount of content on the site. Stuff ran for two weeks, tops. Then - we would pull it, and replace it.

A year or two down the road, we would post it again - and viola... it was NEW again!

The new titles always sells well for us, but many producers have a mentality that once they sell the new titles and the sales of the new titles slow down, then its not worth selling the DVD anymore.

    With this said,

DVD's sales in today's market is a very hard sell! The sales are declining and the way people are getting there porn is becoming more, more electronic. Although DVD sales have slowed down for many of us, the older titles still sell and do well. We find that our series DVDs such as "College Boy Physicals" and the "Got Milked" series do very well for us and keep on selling. Our title Barebackin Brothers has done extremely well for us and we decided to re-release a directors edition with added scenes and clean up the original barebackin brothers and re-release that title by next month and we already have several hundred pre-sold and we are sure that this DVD will keep on selling and be a classic for our studio.

Some titles don't do as well either and they hardly sell and we just accept that as perhaps it wasnt a good video and people like the niche type videos we release and that is okay because between the new titles and the old titles DVD sales are still going good for us. But overall, the industry is changing and we all need to look into the future of the next best way to deliver porn to the public.

We still sell the first film we made over 12 years ago every single day! If the customer hasn't seen it before, then it's new to them! Don't discount the value of high quality older content!

Obviously, we don't sell as many copies as new releases, but the library of titles adds up quite substantially!

A good example of the "Disney" model of re-packging is our re-branding and re-release of the older MSR titles we bought. When we bought MSR several years ago, we sold out the remaining inventory and pulled the titles from the market. We waited about 2 years and then re-branded them under our Manplay brand and re-released them as double packs. We are selling the shit out of them! To most customers they are new titles as they never saw them when they were first released by MSR.

Good content is good content and can always sell. You just have to figure out how to breath new life into it.

Well your wrong. all of our titles do well on VOD sites.
and we still sell our DVD and VHS titles as well.

THERE ARE ALWAYS NEW CONSUMERS THAT HAS NEVER SEEN YOUR STUFF AND WANT IT.

Do you think the old Al Parker stuff has stopped selling anymore.
Why do you think the pre condom stuff is so popular?
    CUS IT KEEPS SELLING.

I couldnt agree with you more

Some people in the industry seem to think that content that isnt 'new' doesnt sell yet i have no clue why, i guess they have been brainwashed in to thinking exclusive content is the way to go when it comes to online sales, its nice to see im not the only one that realizes that isnt the case

    Regards,

Some webmasters do because they have matured in an industry where we're led to beleive that exclusive custom content is the only thing that sells any more.

Lee, I can appreciate you playing devils advocate here. Of course, older content is going to sell. DVD producers still sell their older stuff, just because its old doesn't mean it doesn't sell. Likewise, some of our older updates on our sites are still very popular.

However, I think in doing so you can sumize that original content IS the best way to go. When DVD producers put out a NEW dvd, it sells like hot cakes. You can easily sell 1000 units immediately. While it will continue to sell, it does not sell as well as it did upon release. I think most people would agree that your NEW stuff actually helps sell the old stuff. Surfers that never saw videos from XYZ studios and buys the latest DVD and likes will go back and buy the previous titles too.

So, we've learned... Fresh Original Content will sell better than Older Content. Fresh Original Content will lead the buyers to your older stuff.

too bad we didn't go for residuals as a payment option for DON'T ASK DON'T TELL...

if we had, Tony&Cam might be putting in an offer on the 6.5 acre William Randolf Hearst estate down the road....!
