Here in Argentina we don't have have any of those options...

So I guess we can't really ad much to this...but please try to remember that not all of us live in WEHO.

I think the only real options are T Mobile and AT& T if you require global roaming.

Are there any other carriers that have seamless global service?

My Verizon blackberry is a world phone and will work globally, but requires calling Verizon and them sending out a sim card and adding the service. Sounds like a pain in the ass.

I didn't have very good at&t coverage here at the house and was dropping a lot of calls. That's why I had to switch back to Verizon where I had full signal and high speed network I can use with my laptop when I travel.
    Thanks,
    Jacob

Only 2 gsm carriers in the US, TMobile and At&t. So those should be the only 2 you can use seamless.

I have sprint for years now and I have nothing bad to say about them. Only thing is when I was in Canada I had to switch over to angolg and the phone worked.

Eric my lover when he was here tried T-mobile and it was the world's worst service I had ever seen! It wouldn't work on the LIE from RT-110 to New York City, and no place on his college compass. It tock three month of trying before they let us out of the contract. I had to call the better business people and file a complaint against them.

Same in Panama, our options are Cable&Wireless or MoviStar. I chose CW 3 years ago as it was the only one available. Today, its the only one that offers post-pay contracts, proper global roaming and GPRS over GSM.

OK not much help, but here's a tidbit, did you know that Panama is on the 850GSM band? Its one of very few countries in the world using only 850GSM. If you ever visit here, make sure your phone is quad-band GSM or you won't be able to roam onto our networks.

    I hate cell phones...

I have been cell phone free for about a year now and I LOVE it.
If someone has something to tell me, they can email me or call my land line.

At first I went through a little withdraw...but I am way over that now.

Only the iPhone might have the power to bring me back...but we will see...

I have been with SprinPCS for almost 10 years. one major reason I like this is I can see my site on their network. Other than that I have a good deal that is 80 bucks a month for unlimited cell to cell, text messaging, nights and weekend and long dis. with 2000 anytime mins. And to top it all off them give me a really good deal every couple of years on a new phone.

The Canadians, while fortunate to have some things [gay marriage, sex clubs legalized everywhere, very little attention to marijuana use] they have Rogers to put up with for their cell service.

there's no reason for global roaming with GSM

actually who the fuck roams globally on a GSM phone?
you just walk in to any store buy a sim card pop it in the phone and talk!
none of that roaming bullshit that costs $0.70+ a minute!!!

and in Europe all incoming calls are free so you only pay when dialing out to someone:juggle:

Actually I pay anywhere between $0.99 and $1.49 a minute-- I would LOVE to pay just $0.70!.

Local SIMS are nice, but I count on people being able to reach me at my number, so I can't just change numbers when I leave the country, and local SIMS have their own number.

I need seamless integration -- When someone calls my office, it forwards to my cell phone. If that is an important call, I want to either pick it up or be able to call them back -- and with T Mobile, the Caller ID works just about everywhere so it meets those needs. There is just no cheap, easy, one-size-fits-all solution.

Chad you may want to check out at&t if you want gsm, I think their roaming rates are much cheaper then T-Mobiles. I remember that when I was comparing them. ((hugs))

I have been entirely wireless other then the fax machine for 7 years now. I use to have both landline and cellular, but I was never home and everyone always called my cell phone and it seemed to work everywhere. I also didn't like the confusion of people calling 2 different numbers and having to clear out messages on both places.

So I would just take the money I would waste on a landline and added it to my cell phone plan and it has worked out great for 7 years.
    Thanks,
    Jacob

Raping US subscribers when they are traveling to other continents [and Canada too -- fuckin' Rogers Wireless!!] is almost a sport for most cell carriers. Normally my bill is $80 a month. I sent an extra $300 with my last bill so that the $700 bill I normally get after a trip to Amsterdam wont be so painful.
