Think about what you just said.
I agree totally with everything that Basschick has said. However, I would like to add that designers design. A good designer knows hierarchy. Knows color schemes. Knows mechanics.
However, a designer is only as good as the client requesting the design. I for one would never say to a designer, "Design me a bear site. See you in a week with the check."
"I had to tell one of our straight designers to butch it up a bit." You probably did. Maybe you would have had to ask a gay designer to add some more graphical appeal? Who knows?
What one needs before they approach a designer is a vision of what they want the site to be. That comes from marketing.
I always create a rough visual on paper before I give to a designer as a foundation for what I want. Then it's really up to me and the designer to make it happen.
I have no idea if any designer I have ever used was gay or straight. In fact I am sure some of the companies that I have worked with have both gay and straight designers.
I look for a designer with a good sense of hierarchy, color schemes, and technical skills as my requirements. Those are my weaknesses. Helping the designer make a tour more butch is the easy part as long as the designer is easy to work with. That's a whole other issue.
Hugs,
Lloyd
