My partner & I both bought the first iPhone the day they were released and had a few disappointments but haven't regreted the purchase for a second.

I'm really anxious to see what new features it will have. I've read so much speculation & seen fake pictures on iPhone related sites that I really have no idea what to believe except for the obvious (3G).

On an iPhone related note, for anyone wanting to access their PC or MAC desktop from their iPhone, I discovered a service similar to GoToMyPC that actually works on the iPhone. It's called LogMeIn.com. With some simple changes to your default account settings it actually works & almost all of the functions are free. (last time I checked anyway).

Bunch of new apps, GPS + 3G support, starting at $199 for 8GB. 16GB model is $299. White model also available. July 11.

Not sure if the prices include an AT&T subsidy or not, but if $199 isn't tempting I don't know what is. That's with the same big screen, too. They didn't shrink it to make it cheaper.

Hmm, 1 story I'm reading says that the monthly fee will be $10 more, so with the 2 year contract requirement, 10x24 = $240, so it's $40 more expensive than the model it replaces. Technically no subsidy, they just temporarily eat the upfront cost. If true, that kinda sucks, but it's still nice.

I have to say I'm a bit underwhelmed with the announcement today.

3G, GPS, & flush headphone jack are great new features, but I was really hoping for a lot more from the second generation. I wanted to see more storage, iChat, video recording, landscape keyboard in all applications...

I guess I'll be hanging on to my original iPhone for a while still.

as far as i can see, all the features they're adding have been around with non-iphones for a while - sprint has had 3g and GPS for ages - and most of the new apps require you to buy them.

to me the only thing that iphone has going for it is that it's the ultimate toy - amazing eye candy and fun gadgetry. and that's a good thing.

well, a full browser requires a full sized phone. my phone is tiny, which i like as when i'm traveling very light, i don't even notice it's there - and because it's a clamshell folding phone, it's very well protected. i can carry my eee pc if i want a small but full sized browser. otherwise my phone does surf the internet nice and fast even if it doesn't use a full browser.

ARGH! I spoke too soon! Well, TECHNICALLY I still am not going to be BUYING into the cult of iPhone, but it looks like Suite 703 is going to be getting me one for work purposes. If I am REALLY happy with it, I will dump Sprint faster than Britney Spears' first husband.

Read an interesting article that leads me to believe the only real advantage to the new iPhone is the 3G, which yes, it is faster, and the GPS- but that's not a guarantee, because all of that speed and stuff is dependent on what your carrier (AT&T in the US) is actually allowing you to connect to. And you have to pay more for that speed. Otherwise, all the other features, like MobileMe, are more aspects of the firmware 2.0 update that's coming out very soon. and all iPhones and iPod touchs will be able to get in on that. At least, that's how I understand it.

I'd rather keep my "free" iPhone :innocent: then rush in.
