Have you used WP for non-adult web work?

I'm going to help a small local candidate for public office, and am wondering if there is a WP theme and plug-ns that are best suited to political campaigns?

Including: current events press releases, archive of press releases, Biography/CV, Calendar of events, money contributions, Tweeting, sign up to be part of phone bank, door-knock, rallies....
